Rumor Hollywood insiders say there's growing tension at Disney as CEO Bob Chapek chafes at Bob Iger's 'long goodbye'

Surprising that the article that started all this didn't delve into Chapek's anger at the Board of Directors. They had to have approved of 'the mentoring' deal.

That's the story no one is telling. I'm not so sure that Chapek and the Board aren't on the same side here.

It's never really been explained how the board went from rejecting Rasulo and Staggs and adopting the "no internal candidates" idea, to endorsing Chapek.

Iger wanted out before the worst of the pandemic and gave the board an ultimatum?

I'm guessing, I have no real idea.

One thing I will toss out -- regardless of what kind of scheming/designing/behind the scenes trickery that might have possibly taken place: 1) You don't reach these heights without being an active player; and 2) once you do reach these heights you should know what is coming at you -- it is part of the game. No the game isn't fair. That is why it comes with huge money.

With those two things in mind, think up a scenario that looks good for Chapek. Can he right his ship? Possibly. But there is no sob story here. He's losing control of his leadership narrative -- and in fairly predicable ways.

Have I been binge watching Succession? Yes. Does it seem like good training for this thread? Also, yes.

Because no fans asked for it…

Just reveled in doubling prices, letting Kevin feige and ed catmull do their things, and turned Star Wars into a 3 ring clown car circus…

What amazing leadership🙄

There will perhaps never be someone from Parks and Resorts to take the top job. It will be someone seasoned from the entertainment industry.
Ummm…
Chapek doesn’t have any background in the entertainment industry unless you count selling VCR tapes and DVDs.
Goes to show you we aren’t good at research

Chapek spent 25 years in the crap division…prior to that he sold ketchup

Not even kidding

Whatever he did in merchandise made some believers out of some for him to move up the food chain.
Disney has “moved around” people for 20 years…and it’s strange. Look at the staggs/rasulo thing

“Hey you’re the Disneyland guy and you’re the accountant…
…now you’re the accountant and you’re the teacup guy!”

That’s weird even at that time

Not really unless you learn thee parks business and are deeply a fan of it like Eisner then it will never be good ... in that we have had two CEOs already that hate the parks and don't treat it as a different canvas for creating IP that can spawn films/tv shows/D+ content.

Already I see Chapek has become weak he has not standing up to bullies in Disney.

Um, what do we like that he's done in parks? Genie+?
It’s not what we like. Its what the Board likes, in terms of increasing profitability. I think we theme park enthusiasts have to look past our myopia and realize the company has gone ”all in” on being looked at as a tech company, and that the Board wants its stock to perform like Netflix or Amazon or Apple, and not like Carnival or Marriott or Six Flags.

For those reasons, I think the person after Bob C will come from an entertainment / streaming type of background.

He’s been sold…at least internally…as a “savior” to parks. I had a lengthy discussion late one night at Victoria falls in DAKL last year and I almost made a couple of the CMs cry (I have that effect…unfortunately unintended) about “Josh”…
And at the end of that day - they admitted he hadn’t done anything…just a figurehead head that had really kinda gone along with them being covid pawns.

The record is what it is…he’s just a face that’s a little better at internal PR/not as easily hateable as Bob is. Nothing more.
