HK Space Mountain suspended

I hope this suspension doesn't affect the Grand Opening on Sept. 12. This is the best ride in HKDL, taking this ride out means there is even less to do in the park. If you have a chance, I recommend you ride it at least 5-6 times.

From RTHK newswire:
2005-08-18 HKT 04:44

Disneyland's Space Mountain roller-coaster was temporarily suspended and inspected earlier today, after a 40 year old man was taken ill after riding it. The man was later taken to Princess Margaret hosptial. The ride was shut down for an inspection and then reopened. But another man later reported feeling sick after the ride. A 9 year old boy also sustained minor injuries to his head when it hit the side of his seat. The themepark is now undergoing trial runs before the official opening in September.

First of all, please type in bigger font, your post was really hard to read.

As for the news, OH GOD. This is even MORE bad press for Disney. I really hope this doesn't affect the grand opening. That would mean no good thrill rides with no BTMRR or Splash Mountain to back it up.

My opinion of Hong Kong Space Mountain is very positive. Its a great ride and I can't get enough of it. They updated that space scene using CG graphics. Ride starts very slow as you move up to the top. You see the spinning meteor and then it moves a bit further up. Then you see a supernova and that's when thrill ride begins, car speed start to pickup. It goes through a series of drops and little hops and lots of turns. Near the bottom of the track the car speed goes even faster. Right before your ride ends, you see animated lighting effects makes you look like you're going out of warp speed in Star Trek. I really can't explain that section on the ride, you'll have to ride it to experience it and comment it if you been on other Space Mountain. I really like the space theming and all I can say Hong Kong's version of Space Mountain is better than Orlando. I can't say much about Anaheim's version since I haven't rode it. Maybe someone out here can make the comparison.

What a shame, the park is already low on attractions, especially thrill rides. Hopefully, they can get it all worked out for opening day.

Gardabble, I'm glad to hear that it is a good ride. Maybe one day our SM in Orlando will get a nice rehab. It is the oldest one for crying out loud!

Seems to be up and running now yesterday. I guess it got sorted out.

Glad to hear it :) Its usual in these cases that there is no fault with the ride, but normally a pre-exisitng condition with the guest, or the guest failing to follow directions.
