Higher ticket prices vs Free dining?

Hey Disney Family,

I was just curious, with the price of tickets and options going up ( on a regular it seems) what do you think would be more bang for disneys buck. With free dining, and all the options specials they are running, would they benefit more by cutting back on those specials and lowering the ticket cost? I was just curious to see what others would think.

I suspect tickets bring in more revenue that food or resorts because they're purchased by everyone that goes. There are lots of locals and folks in off-site resorts that go for the day and bring their own food/snacks.

Just made my ressie for my December visit....
$400 for four night room only

...or I could have had the "free dining" that requires ticket purchase and would be around $840. Guess the term free is relative...

I just made mine for November. The choices were free dining at rack rates or room only discount. The room only discount (when tickets were added) was about $300 cheaper or so for one person (solo trip) for seven days. That was for a value resort so it was just a quick service dining plan that I was comparing it to. I chose the discounted rate. If I eat quick service twice a day for the seven days, I still save $100 or so by choosing the room only discount. Besides, I like to bring snack food from home to cut on costs so for me it was a no brainer.

For a large family I can see how free dining is better than the discounted room but for small groups its debatable.
