Higher Elevation Winds...

This past week, my friends and I had a great time at DL and DCA. We even decided to wait at the hub an hour and a half before the fireworks show so we could have great seats for the incredible show. However, at around 9:35, (10 minutes after starting time) I heard one of the most dissapointing announcements I have ever heard at a Disney park: DUE TO STRONG WINDS IN HIGHER ELEVATIONS, OUR NIGHT TIME SPECTACTULAR REMEMBER DREAMS COME TRUE HAS BEEN CANCELLED... I understand that DL must take extra precautions because of its close proximity to hotels, houses, roads etc. But I was wondering if this happens often in the summer or if it's a rare coinisidance.
Looking at the glass half full, we got great seats for Fantasmic that night :)

DL has to be very carful due to thier surrondings. I would imagine it's only done if safety is a concern. From my understanding, there are 2 things that can happen in high wind for remember. 1-The show is held, but Tinkerbelle does not fly. 2-The show is canceled.

Sorry for the dissappointment. I bet you enjoyed Fantasmic!, which is all low-level fireworks, therefore wind isn't such a big concern.

Well, a few more sparks and California will burn to the ground. From where I live to the beaches of Cali it is a fire waiting to happen. We had all of our 4th of July fireworks cancelled due to fire probability. We've had some bad fires this year but some of California's fires have been so bad they smoked us out all the way here in St. George, Utah.

I used to know the exact number but forgot and will try to find them.

DLR resort will close due to high winds the following: Fantasmic, fireworks, parades, Sun Wheel, Golden Zephyr (10 mph) and Bee Stinger. I know it is like 10 mph and 14 mph

It takes a lot to shut down any ride except the above due to the safety issues

Yes, but the surronding buldings probide more barrier then at Remember, therefore causing it to be cancled less frequently.

That Golden Zepher seems to always be closed for Wind! I got to ride it once in 3 days, and I only saw open for about 1 hour each morning. Maybe it was more crowds then winds, but I spent 3 days in the parks and 7 at Disneyland Hotel, and never recall seeing it run from my balcony. I did see a MSEP, or Disney's EP rehersal from the balcony, that was kinda cool!
