Sooo- last night my DH went to the doctor with excruciating pain. Come to find out he might have a hernia. Nothing to require surgery (yet) but still inconvenient. We leave on Sunday... Anybody else go to the parks with an injury like this? :(
Yep, I've done it. The only time it really was aggrevating was getting out of the ride vehicles on Space Mountain. Otherwise I took it easy and walked slower than normal. I did get more people watching in on park benches too!:D

Oh I know!! That's what I meant about SM/EE! Nothing that's going to drop suddenly! (ToT and RnR too (but I figured they'd be more obvious! Haha!!
Not just getting in and out, but ON thrill rides too; he could suddenly tighten those muscles out of excitement or mock fear and hurt himself. (My DH has had 2 hernia surgeries, 17 years apart.)

Gosh, hope he isn't too uncomfortable and I hope you have a great time.

But, God bless him. Nice to see someone taking a Black Knight from the Holy Grail attitude('Tis but a flesh wound) instead of bailing on what will be a great time for you and your family

I also have a hernia but it is a very large hernia I am having an operation to get it fixed tomorrow in the morning and I am also going to the Disney world resort at the end of June. I am a little nervous for the operation tomorrow in the morning but I know that I will do fine during the operation tomorrow morning. I do not have any pain but when I stand for a long time I have a little bit of pain an when I have a belt on and stand for a long time I get sick and though up I had my hernia for a long time but I just found it at the end of March that I have a very large Hernia. I hope that he has a good time at the DisneyWorld resort but he might want to get the hernia fixed sometime soon before it gets to big and makes him have a lot of pain. I have a question about Hernia operations my operation is only going to take an hour to do tomorrow but my question is how long does it take to get back to normal again? I am asking this question because I am going to be at the Disney world resort starting on June 27th until July 2nd will I be ok to get on the roller coasters and the tower of terror by than?

Not anything that serious but an ex-girlfriend of mine sprained an ankle a day or two before. We rented a wheelchair and were able to cut a lot of lines. It might be to your benefit at MK and EPCOT but not so much at DHS and AK. Animal Kingdom is the worst to push a wheelchair. It's probably from the uneven pavement. I didn't have an issue at any of the other parks.

You're going to be fine. I'm like the Queen of Surgery at this point. :) It's normal to be nervous. And it's normal to get more nervous when they wheel you into the surgery room itself. But you'll drift off to sleep, wake up in pain, get pain meds, recover...and be BETTER than you were before.

One of my surgeries had a big, life-threatening, major complication afterwards. I woke up to all the fuss and yelling and heard what was wrong with me. I knew it was very bad, but I was SO DRUGGED that I didn't even care. I had a cloudy thought process of, "Whats going on...jeez, this hurts...huh...well, that's not good...". And then I was out again and woke up while being lifted into the bed in the room. :)

Most people don't have complications. But even on the off chance that you do...they're ready for it. They know what can happen and are prepared to deal with it.

My last surgery, the surgeon popped in to see me just before (they always do) and asked how I was feeling. I said, "A little nervous, you know...But my part is easy. I sleep. How are YOU feeling? Well rested? Not hung over? Had a good breakfast? Going to not kill me?" It's all them. You have to trust them. :)

Make them give you hospital underwear. They're crappy and stupid, but they make you feel less vulnerable than just having the dumb gown and footies.

Bring a warm blanket from home. It gets cold in there sometimes and you can wait forever for another blanket. Bring your own toothbrush. Theirs are crappy. Don't bring a ton of stuff to do. You won't feel like doing it.

You're going to be fine! No...in the end, you're going to be fixed!

You'll be better! :D

Wishing you the speediest of recoveries!!

Are you having the laproscopic version or the open surgery? Is this an inguinal hernia? I had surgery almost exactly a year ago for an inguinal hernia, and had the open surgery (not laproscopic). I was out of commission (pretty much on my back) for 5 days. I was back at work, though still a little sensitive, after a week. I have heard that the laproscopic version is much less invasive, though.

I am having the open surgery tomorrow it is an inguinal hernia I am having the surgery at a surgery center about 5 minutes away from were I live. I have to be there at 830am tomorrow morning at the surgery center the surgery is only going to take an hour but it might be less than that how long was your hernia surgery for? I am going to do fine but I am going to be sleepy after the surgery tomorrow morning. I might sleep for the whole day tomorrow after the surgery but I will be glad when the surgery is over and the hernia is gone it is large hernia it does not hurt that much but I will be glad when the hernia is gone and fixed tomorrow. I am going to go to bed around 11pm tonight so I can get a good nights rest before the surgery tomorrow morning at the surgery center tomorrow morning my family is going to be there with me to help me and help me when I get home tomorrow after the surgery tomorrow morning and keep and eye on me if I need anything like drinks or something to eat latter in the day tomorrow. I will post in this topic tomorrow after I get home from the surgery center after the surgery is over tomorrow in the morning or when I get home and am not to sleepy to be on the computer or my Ipad tomorrow after the surgery. I am not having the surgery in a hospital I am having the surgery in a surgery center.

I had a hernia last year, and ended up having surgery about 3 months before our trip to WDW. Although, my hernia did not have any pain associated with it at all. It may have been a different type from your DH's, but I can tell you it may be uncomfortable being on his feet walking for long distances. Just follow your doctor's advice, as there can be serious complications if left untreated.

Same here. I had the same condition one year before and removed it six months before. The main cause for hernia can be an opening in the wall of the muscle and connective tissue that supports your abdomen. Once you have a weakness in your abdominal wall, anything that increases the pressure in your abdomen may push fat or part of an organ through the opening. I heard about a lot of cases in which the situation worsened due to the lack of treatment. I didn't want that in my life, hence I went for a laparoscopic hernia surgery and feeling far better now.

I am felling more awake today than what I have been felling all this week. the operation did not take long to do but it was done in a surgery center that is 5 minutes away from were I live. I got to were really cool hostel socks before I went home on Monday this week. I am glad that the operation is over so I can start to think about my Disney world vacation at the end of next month. When I was having my surgery on Monday morning I was dreaming that I was at the Disney world resort with my family I was dreaming that I was on the monorail going to the magic kingdom and than the other part of my dream I was watching the fireworks and the main street electrical parade and there was an ad that spertomagic would be coming back next summer that was in my dream when I was having the surgery on Monday morning this week maybe if we wish hard enogth and keep dreaming spectromagic will come back to the Disney world resort sometime soon.
