Here Comes Harry Potter

This will definately suck a day or two from one Disney vacation after it opens.

Same here!

Harry Potter brought my family together over a series of books and movies like nothing else ever had before.

It isolated me from my family for like 4 months. :lookaroun

Many a weekend spent with my nose in the books while the family continued on with their normal lives, and that was just my FIRST time going through them.

By my second time through the husband was definitely rolling his eyes. I'm about to start my 3rd time.

I mean I think that placing HP into any theme park would be a mistake, because it's a pop culture icon! I mean it's going to be something that my generation(born in the mid 80's-early 90's) is going to remember, kind of like my brother generation remembers star wars(early 70's). I'm afraid that when I have kids and I take them to universal, not genearly gonna happen, that they will have no idea who HP is. I mean if they, universal, wanted to do something small like Disney has done with Narnia thats one thing, but this isn't going to be to like that and I think they are putting out all this money on something that 10-15 yrs down the road won't be remembered. Star Wars is different, I think, because its placed itself into more than one or two generations.

But I have a question, I mean since they will proably be using images of the actors like Daniel, Emma & Rupert will they be paid royalities?

Oh, I started reading HP for the first time this fall, and I've been through the series more than once. One positive to waiting this long, I didn't have to wait to see how it was going to end! And this will probably be the only thing that will get me to Universal - as long as it is done well.

The Harry Potter park is looking cool :D BTW, who IS Jim Hill anyway? :o
Jim Hill is basically a blogger who has this Media site, where he talks about all things entertainment, but mostly Disney.

Some people believe him, some think he's baloney...just depends on who you talk to. I take him like all rumor starters, with a grain of salt.

His site is jimhillmedia.com, if you want to look.

I haven't been to Universal since 2004, but will go when HP opens. It's a really big deal. Harry Potter brought my family together over a series of books and movies like nothing else ever had before. Yes the series of books is done, but I think it stands with Star Wars as the most effective and popular series of fantasy in the past 100 years. It will go on for a long time IMHO.
Wow, now that's what I call hyperbole!

I think it is a little premature to give HP the same status as Star Wars, especially with Tolkien still in the room. Star Wars' legacy stretches back to the 70s and the popularity of Tolkien's books span multiple decades. The LOTR movies were incredible and pulled in a patootie-load of money and a live action film of The Hobbit will eventually be in theaters. Better let the HP properties prove themselves over the next few years before canonizing them.
