Here Comes Harry Potter

am i the only one that finds it odd that Jim Hill goes out of his way to bash certain things disney does (ratatouille, cars, pixar in general, theme park desicions/operations), but when something good happens (like Enchanted doing well in the theaters for two weeks in a row now..), he dosen't even mention it?
i have been looking for the past week and a half for some sort of article about how positive this development is for the Disney company and the future of Disney animation.....

but instead, i get articles on Shrek The Halls and the new Harry Potter world at Universal.

I swear I wonder sometimes who's side is he really on...

Meh - it doesn't surprise me one bit that he's like that.

Just turn on the news...people thrive on negativity and the sensationalism of bad things.

It's rare that we hear about an addict that cleans up her/his life and opens a teen help center or such kind of enlightening (/"Enchanting" :animwink:) news.

Oh well, I figure that we all know why we're here...because of the Magic!

Just curious...some of the rides are being rethemed to Harry Potter attractions. Are all attractions in the Lost Continent still open?

For me, I don't think it will be that great. I mean all of the books are done and there are only a few movies left. It just seems like it will be "up to date" for a little while and then just fade away(my point of view).

There's a lot of great things that are not "up to date" that are still popular. Star Wars anyone?

Or all the "classic" Disney films? Time will tell if HP will be considered "classic" (my hunch is "yes," but who knows?). Certainly I wouldn't rush to say interest will simply die out.

I am intrigued and excited...not only will I be able to experience HP (I'm a casual fan), but in the vein of competition and one-upmanship, hopefully WDI will be inspired to create even more fantastic attractions...

Like SGE :D

He he, just kidding, really, though...I think HP could be great for everyone, especially fans/guests (imagine how it's possible to be that optimistic when it's 30 degrees and a mixture of snow and ice outside....crazy, I know!).

I do not care for HP very much but from the concept art I think this new land will be very impressive. I could definitely see it drawing us away from WDW for a day or 2 on our next trip.

The land looks nice...but...I think the whole cliff/mountainous area they're going for around/under the "castle" looks kind of weak...I know they're going for the illusion of "big", but from the artwork it doesn't look too impressive...maybe it will look better in person.

This will definately suck a day or two from one Disney vacation after it opens.

In my opinion, Harry Potter can have the same staying power if that universe is allowed to expand and grow as the Star Wars universe has.

However, if JK Rowling keeps her tight grip (which is her right) on the franchise and doesn't expand it, then in 10 years or so it will be the next Indiana Jones. Great movies and theme park attractions, but wanning pop culture relevance.

This is just my opinion, supported by no facts, just my own personal observations.

If my wife (not the vacation planner in our family, but possibly the biggest Disneyphile) is any indication, this is a big deal. As soon as this was announced, she informed me, in no uncertain terms, that our 2010 February Florida trip *will* be focused on Universal.

I haven't been to Universal since 2004, but will go when HP opens. It's a really big deal. Harry Potter brought my family together over a series of books and movies like nothing else ever had before. Yes the series of books is done, but I think it stands with Star Wars as the most effective and popular series of fantasy in the past 100 years. It will go on for a long time IMHO.

Now the question is if Universal will do it well. I will be 50 years old when I go back there, and I must admit that my tastes have changed over the years. Universal hasn't exactly been my cup of tea lately. I ride everything at IOA, but my wife can't and so it seperates us. Disney gives us tons of stuff to do together. If they offer a big bad *** ride and a bunch of crummy shops, then one trip will be all there is. IOA is a very exciting place if you are a teen or young adult, but since it's usually guys like me that bring the money...........

Wait and See.

Judging by the quality of the theming around most of the rest of the park I expect this new area to be pretty mindblowing...probably shooting for best in the world. I am very excited about it and will plan a trip down there just to go see it.
