Hello all, I have really never been a big gamer but I now have a 6 year old son that has been seeing all the commercials for Disney Infinity and power of 2 he really wants a console to play those games. I am going to buy him one for his birthday May 24 but the problem is I have no idea what console to buy him. He will only want it for Disney games and maybe a Starwars game. So my question is which console would be best for this. I am thinking Wii or Kinect from others I have talked to but I really have no idea. Any help, ideas , suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!

I don't know which would be best, but in order to use a Kinect, you'd have to buy and Xbox 360, too.

Yes, I know, that is what I meant . The Xbox 360 Kinect, I just forgot the name of the console and only remembered the Kinect part, lol, but thanks for making sure.

Here's some more advice from my personal experiences:

A Wii is more geared towards kids of younger ages (like your son), whereas an Xbox 360 is geared more towards teens and older ages. I haven't tried the Kinect, but that looks like Xbox's attempt at games for the younger children.

And the Xbox 360 might become "old" sometime in the near future. PlayStation is releasing the PS4 just in time for the holiday season, and many believe that there may be a new Xbox released around the same time for competition. There is already a new Xbox in the works from what I hear. I've heard rumors that the prices will be high for those systems (heard one report a month or so ago that it could cost $900, but don't know if that's true). So I don't know if you want to buy a Xbox 360 right before a new one is released.

Hope I helped some more! :)

Nintendo has carved out a niche by marketing the Wii toward casual gamers. Lots of kid-friendly titles with bright colors and fun activities, as well as sports and fitness-related games that fully exploit the physical motion nature of the control scheme.

The PS3 and XBox 360 are generally considered "serious" game machines for people who want top-shelf graphics, in-depth storylines, or immersive first-person shooting experiences.

Or at least that's been my impression as an admittedly Wii-partial casual gamer.

Microsoft is having a big reveal event on May 21 for their new console. All indications are both the new XBOX and the PS4 being released around the holiday season this year.

I'd be interested to know where you heard about the $900 price tag. I'd be shocked if they were that high.
I would expect something more around $600-$700 for the top model of each system, the ones with the most included memory, etc.

I actually heard it from a couple of my friends. I thought it was ridiculous, and wasn't quite sure. I expect it to be lower, because how many people have that kind of cash for one thing, without games. I remember the insanity when the Wii came out. People when nuts!

I remember as well. I'm waiting on the info on the new XBOX, then I'm going to preorder ASAP.
