Hey all...

Ugh. I have gotten yet ANOTHER AIM virus  This time, it was one where my friend got it (but I didn't know yet) and I clicked the link on it. Now... it keeps popping up and saying I'm away and says something like Still Friends *insert link here* ?!

Anybody know how to get rid of this specificly or AIM viruses in general? If anyone knew anything I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks soooo much in advance...

you brought a new virus to me... I have no idea these existed... have you tried removing AIM and using trillian instead?

http://www.trillian.cc/

That may remove the object... perhaps?

(This is not a bad plug... i use the softwear and it works well...)

Make sure your anti-virus program is up to date then scan your PC. Do the same with your anti-spyware program.

Failing that, if you have Windows XP, you could try a system restore.

It's always a virus someone sends you through file transfer.. or through the message channel, better refuse everyone except people in your list...
File transfer only people in your contact list..
Never allow automatic file transfer they MUST always ask you...

And your still using it at your own risk.

AIM and ICQ are infamous for these things, that's why I don't use AIM.. or ICQ
Too many open ports...

First see if the link is still in your info box, if it is remove it.
Then run your anti virus program. I picked a trojan from a buddies info box & Norton missed it. I used McAfee and it cleared it out and found some spyware my other programs had missed. If you know who gave you the virus (I did because his message was implanted in my info box) make sure you tell them or it will be passed on again. Good luck.

if she had XP her sistem restore could work... but when was the last time it backed up?? I know my computer i fixed at every other day backup... and that can be bad sometimes...

I think she should try the trillian idea first... then try other things, (maby the anti-virus first too...)

There is a program called HijackThis! that will have you remove it manually but it is very effective. It also creates a backup so if you delete something by accident your system wont be effected too bad. If you google "HijackThis!" you'll find it. It's freeware so avoid if there is one saying that there's a free trial.
