I dont want to sound like a dummy, but it is probably inevitable...how do i shrink my own photos so that they will be able to be used for an avatar...i have tried but no luck

It depends what programs you are using.

Most photo editing programs have a resize options, where you can just type in the dimensions you want.

Or you can use something like miscrosoft paint to resize it, by dragging in the corner of the image. (But this might cut away some of your picture.)

Or if you post it on the forums, I'm sure someone will do it for you.
