hi all, my mum just booked a holiday to Disney and we are staying in Port Orleans French Q, as we live in UK we booked with Virgin Holidays and the dates we are going meant it included free Disney dining plan and my mum upgraded to getting a table service meal each night as well as a counter service meal and a snack per day.

Can someone tell me best places to use the dining plan e.g.

  • best place for a table service/ best restaurant in parks?

  • Is counter service basically like Mc Donald’s in the parks?

  • And what type of snacks can we get?

Counter service is a little more extensive in selections than in McDonald's.
Each location offers slightly different selections with some specializing in Pizza.
Salads are available in most if not all counter service locations. Check the various locations as you travel through-out the 4 parks.

Snacks are generally cookies, fruits, ice-cream stands, etc.

Table service locations are all very good, including the resort hotels. Locations which offer character experiences generally utilize 2 table service points (Cinderella's in the Magic Kingdom Castle for example) You can down-load off the web-sites a full listing of dining plan locations and how many points (1 or 2) are required.

Worth a visit to the dining plan site for full information.

Counter service is definitely not like McDonald's in the parks. You can get some really good quality, large portion meals at some of the counter service locations. Sunshine Season in EPCOT serves lovely, healthy meals. Cosmic Rays in the MK serves huge BBQ rib and chicken platters. Yes you can get a burger and fries at some of the counter-service locations, but you certainly do not have to! :slurp:

I second lilclerk - go to www.allears.net and check out their menus - the wide range of food is unbelievable. Be forewarned - if you're going during Free Dining, make your Dining Reservations (ADRs) as soon as possible. The best restaurants book up quickly. BUT if you have patience, many people will cancel and you'll have some chances to get into your favorites.

EPCOT - Le Cellier (steak), Tutto Italia (Italian cuisine), and Rose and Crown Pub (British fare) are my favorites.

MK - Liberty Tree Tavern (lunch - sandwiches, old-time fare), The Plaza (sandwiches) and Tony's (Italian) are my favorites.

DHS - The Sci-Fi Dine In Theater has delicious food and is just fun in general, Prime Time 50's food is just ok but the atmosphere is hysterical and Mama Melrose is ok (Italian.)

AK - We're not big fans of any food in Animal Kingdom but for a cheesy American good-time you can go to the Rainforest Cafe. They have pretty decent food.

At the resorts and Downtown Disney, the Grand Floridian Cafe, Narcoose's, Wolfgang Puck's and Portobello Yacht Club are delicious.

Some of the better Counter Service you'll find are: AK's Pizzafari, MK's Columbia Harbor House, any counter-service in World Showcase at Epcot, Earl of Sandwich at DTD and Beaches and Cream at the Boardwalk.

Just some of our favorites!:animwink:

Actually, I think Cinderella's Royal Table may be the ONLY example of a character meal that takes two dining plan credits. At most, there may be 1, possibly 2 others if that, but it would be more accurate to say that character meals are generally 1 TS credit locations. So far, on the dining plan, we have eaten at Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, Crystal Palace (breakfast), Liberty Tree Taversn (when it was still a character establishment), and Garden Grill and all of those have been 1 TS credit restaraunts.

If I am wrong, I definitely want to know, because I have several character meals on the agenda for our April trip, and I am counting on them being 1 credit each on the dining plan. Specifically, the restaraunts I plan on doing next time are Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace (definitely breakfast, but possibly a supper as well. Did someone say it still has characters for supper?), Garden Grill, Hollywood & Vine (lunch) and possibly 1900 Park Fare.
