i need advice my friend and i are planing a vacation in march 2006 i want to pay extra for the perfered building. i have a child who has ADHD and she is a loving well behaved child 90% of the time but after a long day of fun and walking she is kind of grumpy, and harder to handle as are most kids. i stayed at ASMovies last time i went and was bumped up to the perfered building and it turned out great. i was told pop was a much bigger hotel and i though although you can request a building your not certain to get it. my friend thinks it a waste of money and would be to noisey. i worry we could get stuck it a building far away and have a long walk at the end of the day that could turn into a major episode with ny daughter. i am not going to have a car so i will be taking the busses to the parks so my walk will be from the main building. so what does everyone think do i pay extra or take my chances. are some of the building a long walk or is spending the extra money a waste because the building are all so close? HELP!!! any advice you have for me i would love to hear also any other tipp for this resort would be great
thanks

Although this is a bigger resort room number wise, the building are somewhat closer together so distances from Classic Hall (main building) to each guest building are a little shorter compared to each of the All Stars Resorts. The Perferred Buildings are the two 1960's buildings and both are equal distance from Classic Hall. None of the buildings are more or less quiet then another.
This resort also has 3 pools, and 4 floors per building. Any building request will be noted on your reservation but cannot be guarenteed as your specific room assignment is done by the resort itself about 1 day prior to your arrival.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Because of your situation, my advice is this: pay the extra $$ per night and request a room in the '60s buildings (they surround the Hippy Dippy pool).

When we stayed in the 50's section, I found that to be just as close as the 60's and you are not over the main pool which can be noisy since people are in it to after midnight when it is really hot out.

I love the Pop Century!! I'm going back there again this december too :)

As for the best building.. I think the 50's is the best looking.. it has the coolest colors and a very classic feel. Also, its just as close to the lobby as the prefferred (higher price) 60's building.

Now.. the 60s building I always stay at though because I heard if you don't get prefferred then your stuck in a random building? So I never chanced it.. I always pay the prefferred and stay at the 60s building to get close to the lobby. I'd hate to get stuck in the 70s or 90s buldings and have a long walk. The 60s building is nice and colorful but not as cool looking as the 50s to me.

I grew up in the 80s and like the Pac-Man and rubics cube theme they have going on.. especially at night.. but the building is just so far away from the lobby that I wouldnt want to stay there :(

I would think if you requested the 50's building explaining your situation with your daughter, maybe even have a dr's note with you for check-in purposes and fax the hotel the day before with the request and dr's note, I couldn't see why they wouldn't try to accommodate your request for the 50's building.

This way everyone would be happy, I understand what it is like to travel with folks that don't want to pay for any extra's for sake of convenience, they see it as a big waste of money where I don't. Case in point would be the Fantasmic Dinner Package, where I think that is money well spent not to have to wait in line for 2 hrs and be able to do other things in the park instead.

Sorry, I would need to disaggree with this suggestion. This reason Disney has set up the Preferred building is for guest that would like to be the closest to the main hall. The price difference between Preferred Buildings and Standard Building is currently $12 per night, regardless of season.

Disney does everything they can to accomodate guest with disablilities but this is simply not the case for this situation, as the distance from any building to the main hall is not considered unreasonable.

All room request should be made to Central Reservations at the time of booking or as far out as possible. We have been told at DRC that room request faxes to the resorts are no longer acknowledged or honored.

Hope this helps! :sohappy:

Absolutely true! We have just returned and unless your room was reserved in the premium bldgs (at a charge of $12/night) you were given a room wherever they had room for you. Faxes/phone calls etc. are no longer being honored. If you are truly concerned, *pay* the extra money and take comfort in the peace of mind it gives you.

I stayed in the 50s building for 2 nights that bordered the 60s building. The extra distance was probably negligible. So if you want to save a few bucks, request 50s.

Also, our room was on the back side facing the lake where it was QUIET!! I could not believe how obnoxious all that blaring music on the inside of the Resort nearest the pools was.

We could see Wishes and Illuminations from our 4th floor balcony and window. That was 50s section, building 3, floor 4, room 27. (But that whole back wing would be fine.) It was peaceful and pleasant back there. More info can be obtained inside of my trip report that i JUST posted.

Happy planning to you!!

We requested the 70's for our September trip. Isn't it just as close to the main hall as the 50's?

Yes, it's on the other side of the '60s. The problem is, "requesting" a room/bldg. just doesn't cut it anymore :lookaroun If there are health concerns, go for the extra $$ (jmo).

Please remember that about 99.9% of guest want the best room in the Resort, at the lowest possible price. The resort room assigners do their best to fill as many request as possible, but request such as asking to be as close to the main building as possible, but not being willing to paying the extra $12 for the Preferred buildings often are not honored.

Request like upper or lower floors, smoking room / non-smoking rooms, lake view, near elevators, etc. will be more likely honored whenever possible.

I stayed in the 70s over spring break and the walk was not bad to Classic Hall and the parking lot was even closer I think that the 50s, 60s, or 70s would be a good choice

I also vote for the 70s bldgs at PC, especially the one with the Big Wheel (sorry, I don't remember the bldg number). It is a short walk to the food court when going out the "front" (exiting between the Big Wheel and the giant Mickey Phone) and a short walk to the bus stops, when going out the "back" (heading toward the giant Rubik cubes).

Although the 70s bldg does not have a pool, it is smack between the main, Hippy Dippy pool in the 60s bldgs, and the quieter Computer Pool in the 80s/90s section. However, instead of a pool, this section has a soft-surface splash/play area, where the water squirts up from lots of counter sunk fountains. Kids love this feature, and my 70-year old mom was tempted to join in on a particularly hot day a couple of weeks ago!

I have stayed in the preferred section at All-Star Sports, and found the noise from the main pool to be an issue, especially late at night.

Another consideration at Pop is proximity to the parking lots if you will have a car.

The 60s buildings are quite a hike from the lots.

Check out a map--there are parts of the 80s and 90s buildings that are very close to parking.

One other thing to remember is that the bus stop is closer to the 70s-80s-90s side of the resort than the 50s building is.

50's building A is the best there is. I never have a problem getting in there, though some times I haven't been able to check-in right away. You just have to know what to ask for when you check-in.

IMHO, the "prefered" buildings in the 60's are further away in many cases than 50's, especially the A building, especially to the busses. You just cut around Classic Hall and you are there. You could throw a coin from the upper floors and hit the top of Classic Hall.

No matter what you decide, congrats on Pop - it's a nice step up from the other values in every respect. Hope you have a magical time!
