HELP!!!! Trouble with my icons

Ok Hopefully someone will be able to help me. I have a folder on my hard drive that has Icons that I have collected from the net. For a while I've been able to open the folder and I would be able to see what each individual icon looked like. Well now when I open the folder I get the generic windows icon (the one when your computer does not know which program to associate the file with). Does anyone know how I can get it to show me my icons again.

I'm running Win98 (I KNOW I am about to get a new computer within the next year)

HELP ME

BTW If I go into a program and try to change the icon of that program instead of showing me my icon choices it gives me the same generic icon. THANK SOOOOO MUCH

What about right-clicking in the folder and making sure the "view" is set to "thumbnails"? That's the only thing I can think of...

Have you installed or removed any software or hardware, or changed any settings, since the icons were last visible?

DUH I forgot to include this in my first message. I did install a photo uploader for my mom's digital camera but I did the custom setup and unclicked the associate photos box but I think that it is the culprit. I uninstalled it and it has yet to change anything.

What happens when you double-click any of the icons? If you play around with "what program to open the file with" settings, you might be back in business.

When I click on them nothing happens. Before they were not associated with anything you could just see them in the folder. I've tried to associate them with photoshop or my other image programs but to no avail.

When you try and associate them with something, have you tried checking the box that says "always associate these files with.." or something similar?

Before they where not associated with anything. You could just see them in the folder. I've associated them with different programs trying to see if it would get the desired results but nothing. :veryconfu :(

Try right clicking one of them, press open with >> select choose program from list >> pick the program and tick the box "always use this program to open the selected file type". This may be different depending on what version of windows you've got. :)

I'm having a similar problem. All my JPG's used to be small thumbnails instead of icons. They would also have thumbnails in dialog boxes so that I could tell if I was replacing a picture with the same one or whatnot. But no more! :( Anyone have an idea?

Yea I know how to associate the files but I'm trying to just view them in the folder. I've tried assosiating them with Explorer (when I do I can open them and look at it in explorer but cannot see them in the folder)
