Help! Port Orleans Riverside... Art of Animation... Pop! Century... or All Star Music??

It's that time again... Planning our Spring vacation to the World. Our last trips have been to Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, and off site... With a few Grand Floridian and Polynesian stays in the distant past.

We'll be traveling as a family of four: My wife and I (late '20s, FWIW), Avery (4), and London (nearly 2 at time of travel).

We're planning to use the same room discount deal (travel by April 12th) we used last year when we booked Caribbean Beach, but we're stuck trying to narrow down where we want to be.

Here's the options, all figured using: April 3-9, 6 day Park Hopper tickets, Disney Dining Plan...

Port Orleans - Riverside, Royal room
$3254

Port Orleans – Riverside, standard room
$3097

Art of Animation, The Little Mermaid standard room
$3050

Pop! Century Resort, standard room
$2781

All Star Music, standard room
$2731

The factors at play:

- Avery LOVES The Little Mermaid, and has seen pics of the AoA TLM rooms and I know she'd love them. My wife and I stayed in TLK suite at AoA for the media event last winter, and we love the resort. I am worried about the smaller size of TLM rooms compared to the moderates since we'll need a Pack and Play for London. The AoA TLM price is within spitting distance of what I would consider to be a far superior resort in POR.

- I'm leaning towards the POR Standard Room, for the mix of size, quality, and value. I haven't stayed here since the Dixie Landings days, but everything I've seen shows that this place is beautiful.

- My wife thinks that a POR Royal Room would be a good consolation prize for Avery, since she is squarely Princess obsessed and would be missing her pick of AoA TLM rooms. The rooms look very pretty to me, but it seems like a more mature take on the Princess motif than would be appreciated by our little princess. At the top of the options pricing-wise, this option would cost more than $500 more than the cheapest All Star Music room, everything else equal.

- I included All Star Music and Pop! Century simply because they're more budget friendly. We're typically go-go-go on vacation, coming back to the room for afternoon naps and to sleep at night. While the 2 little ones would probably like the bright colors and oversized props, the $300 jump up to POR seems well worth it to me.

So, experts of WDWMagic, what say you? Any and all opinions are appreciated!

We stayed in the Royal Room last January with my 9 year old son. He enjoyed hitting the fireworks button just as much as I did! With that said, I'd go with POR for transportation reasons. The Value Resorts, other than Pop (and maybe AofA), share a bus so that could mean long lines and full buses at Music. Plus you have boat access to DTD from POR.

Port Orleans, Royal or standard. The larger room, double sinks, coffee maker (if you're a coffee person) and queen-sized beds will be much-appreciated amenities for a family of four, and you won't find any of them in a value resort standard room. If you request a room in Alligator Bayou, the kids will love the murphy bed and the subtle Princess and the Frog theming. PORS also has a terrific food court, a wonderful pool, and the ferry boat to Disney Springs. You're going to feel much more "cramped and crammed" in a value resort-sized room, especially if you or your spouse are tall enough to be uncomfortable in a double bed.

Here's another vote for POR. I would go with the royal room. The rooms are very nicely themed, and when you are trying to get back to the resort at the end of the day, you have your pick of buses. The royal rooms are closest to POFQ, and we found on our last trip, the line for POR bus back would be very long. The line for POFQ pretty short. It is about a 7 minute stroll along the Sassagoula to get from POFQ to POR. Handy second option, if you need it.

The ASMu resort does not share buses with the other resorts most of the time; just had to do some myth busting ;). However, given the size of your party and the fact that little ones seem to require more stuff many times, I would vote for PORS, simply a larger room and queen beds will be more comfortable. I have stayed in the ASMu family suites and they are fantastic. I have also stayed in a standard room and they are small; and I was by myself! Now, one perk of staying at ASMu resort is that the other All Stars are very close and if one of the other buses comes before your bus leaving the parks you can hop on and then just stroll back to ASMu because it is in the middle of the others. One time I did this from EPCOT and it seemed that everyone on the bus had the same thought so the driver just took us to ASMu after stopping at Sports. I will say that I also prefer the food court at ASMu compared to Pop. There is another consideration for you, will you be wanting to do table service dining at your resort? If so then PORS might be a better fit. Whatever your decision is have a wonderful trip.

Thanks for all the help! I was definitely leaning towards POR already, and y'all are helping me get over the hump so-to-speak. The extra space at POR will be a huge benefit... At CB last year, we had room for the double stroller to park next to the door (convenient for quick rolls in and out), and the pack and play next to the dresser.

I'm going to give the little Princess a lineup of Royal Room - Standard Mansion Room - Alligator Bayou Room - and Mermaid Room to see which she would prefer. I'm sensing a Royal Room in our future.

We stayed in the LMR last September & our Princess loved it! She was a month shy of 4. The over the top details & the bright colors really attract the kids. My only complaint is that it's a bit far for that morning cup o'joe!

Another vote for POR. It's a beautiful resort, with a short little ferry ride to DTD. We just booked a Royal Room for Spring for our little princess. It will be our first time in the royal room, and we are all very excited to see it!

@PREMiERdrum - I've stayed in the LM standard ariel room and the Princess Tiana royal room for my Ariel obsessed daughter. POR royal room is the way to go. Your daughter will love the decorations and it has more of being in an actual room at a palace feel as opposed to being in a room that has some LM decorations. Plus, as others have alluded to, the bedboard fireworks are the bomb and PoR is such a nice resort that I have trouble consider it lesser than the deluxes. Less crowded and better food courts, nice sit down restaurant, your daughter can take a boat and do one of the pirate scavenger hunt thingys, beautiful spot for the outdoor movies at night, fun pianist, nice bar, etc.

We need time for things to happen.
I'll say what I always say: 85 percent of the time when people are trying to decide where to stay it's always between "somewhere else and PO resort ..the reason? They're awesome!

And...yes still as beautiful as the Dixie Landing days.

I haven't stayed in the royal rooms but it looks like @George 's daughter gives it the royal thumbs up so there you have it! I will also agree with George that although a moderate I always consider it a VERY small notch below a deluxe.

My daughter's name is Avery too and although not a princess fan when she was little ---As a now 17 year old she had me running around the parks meeting Rapunzel and Pocahontas this past September!

I'd go w/ PORS standard room, and upon check in request a "preferred" room, or even sometimes if you ask, they upgrade you to a royal room. I don't care for the AS Resorts, just too "motel-like" for me. POP was nice, but yet again, it is a value resort. A of A would be my 2nd choice, only because it's new.;) Good luck in your choices. No matter what you choose, it will still be a magical vacation!:joyfull:

I'd do the cheaper POR room and spend the extra $150 on a Princess breakfast at Akershus. I think you're right about the Royal Room being a little too sophisticated for a 4 year old to enjoy at all (or at least for long.)

If it were 2 or 3 nights, I'd vote for the AoA, because that's right up a 4 year old's alley...but six nights is a long time. You also might regret not going for the extra space.

Let us know what you decide...OOPS, you already did.

Have a great stay!
