Has anyone stayed at Ft. Wilderness Resort & Campground? I just got quote from a travel agent for this resort but I don't know anything about it. There are 3 kids and 3 adults and we're trying to find a place to stay together without paying the "suite" prices. Please let me know if you've stayed there and if you liked it.

Thanks.

I've stayed there, both camping and in the cabins. It is the best campground you will ever find, IMO. As for the cabins, we always loved those too! I think you'll like it!!!

We would stay in the cabins. We have a party of 6 (3 kids and 3 adults) and we're trying to find a place that will allow us to all be in the same room rather than getting 2 different rooms.

Would you do FT. Wilderness Cabins or Caribbean Beach if you had a choice?

We stayed in a wilderness home- family of five- loved it, we went to many of the campground activities, we took a taxi service and had them stop at a grocery store on the way in- bought supplies for breakfast and sandwich stuff, drinks, saved alot of money on food- even though the cost of the cabin was a little higher than some resorts, I feel we came oput ahead. You still get daily maid servie etc.
Hope you have fun!

Have you looked into 2 joining rooms at a value resort?

Fort Wilderness is GREAT. We have never stayed in a cabin, but I hear they are really nice.

At 700 acres FW is vast with lots to do. You will enjoy having dinner at Trails End or Hoop-DE-Doo. We always plan one day just to hang out at the camprground. And it is a beautiful campground. There is a bus system to get you where you need to go.

You should do the campfire sing-along at least once. There is basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. You can rent a boat, go fishing, or take a trail ride or wagon ride. You can visit the petting zoo, horse stables, or watch the blacksmith.

You can sunbathe on the beach or at night watch Wishes or the water light pagent from there. You can rent bikes or golf carts and there are 2 pools for swimming.

Don't forget to look for the lawnmower tree.

I know you will enjoy your stay and have a great time.:)

I have stayed at Ft Wilderness many times and it is my favorite overall place to stay. The scenery is beautiful, especially around Meadows Trading Post which is a store that also has some expensive grocery items, but has checker boards for the kids to play at, as well as rocking chairs outside, I remember being a little kid and as the rain came pouring down just sitting in those chairs under the overhang as it kinda felt like a comforting sauna. The shows are great and the kids love the movies at night. Also near Pioneer Hall there are free roaming peacocks and a petting zoo you can visit daily.

As for the cabins themselves they are basically three room, a main one with table and bed that comes down from the wall, with TV and a connecting kitchen that has a full size fridge. The bathroom is fairly standard, but then there is another roomin the back, with one large bed, and two bunk beds, that kids usually love. Also in this second room there is a second TV so if you have disagreements of what to watch, the kids can watch their own TV. The cabin is surrounded by cedar trees and is very quiet and calming, with a porch and a picnic table for you to have cookouts, that's why many have grocderies or try to buy them when staying here.

If I had two major suggestions it would be these. Because of the sheer size of the campgrounds and it's location it can be time consuming to get to the parks. Some even suggest using your own transportation. The way transportation works is you take a bus to one of two bus stops on the campgrounds and then from there you take a bus to one of the parks, or a boat ride to the magic kingdom. This can annoy people who don't know this. BUT there is something you can do to make better time, as welkl as move around the campgrounds quicker. You can rent a golf cart to drive around, as you'll see many people using tem, and the kids love them. These you can drive to either bus stop, either the beach area or the main gate area, park the carts there, and then just wait for the one bus or boat. Of all the resorts, none has as many activities as Ft. Wilderness, and it is kinda cool to go back and have your own building to yourself after going to the parks. If there were one negative it's transportation....BUT the golf cart helps greatly, though fitting six in might be a challenge, you might need two trips or two carts. As for Caribbean, I also loved it....but I'd go with Ft. Wilderness as it's completely diferent experience. Caribbean's Port Royale is cool and the beach is nice and stuff.....I do honestly love it too, but I'd go for the fort if money wasn't a big deal. Also Ft Wilderness has a beach, practically every sport near by, pools, two stores, shows, a petting zoo etc. The horses that walk the carriages in the Magic Kingdom live at Ft. Wilderness and you can visit them when they aren't on the job. Also there is no food court like most disney resorts, so you might want to figure that in as well. Sorry if I went on for too long.......just thought this might help. I'll see if I can post some pics to better explain stuff ;)
I can't post attachments....for this I am sorry as I do have some nice pics of Ft. Wilderness.....it is one of my favorite places to be as I went there every Christmas. If you need or want to see the pics, just mention it and I'll try to e-mail them.

I'm in the same boat. We have a family of five and two rooms at a value resort doesn't sound all that great. We stayed in a deluxe room at WL and it was wonderful. Basically it had a bedroom (2dbl beds), a bathroom and a living room area (with a fold out couch). But, for a whole week, it was too pricey. We, too, are trying FW cabins on our next trip. It sounds like everyone has had a great time there. Be sure to rent a golf cart.

The cabins are GREAT! Just do it. You won't regret it at all. Rent a golf cart, it will make all the difference in your experience, and then sit back and relax. Another hint...ask for a cabin in the 2100 or 2200 loops. They're right in the center of the campground resort, and not far from either end where you'll catch the shuttles to the parks, and VERY close to the pool...

We are staying at the FW Cabins for the first time on our trip next month (29 days away!) and everything I have read sounds great. I am looking forward to having a full kitchen and seperate rooms so the little ones can go to bed even if the grownups want to stay awake.

I have referenced this site several times: http://home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence/faq_fw.htm and it's full of great info. We are not going to rent the golf cart but will have our own car.

Can anyone give me a suggestion about a specific cabin or loop to request?
