So our daughter has no idea about the trip. It's an early present for her 8th Birthday which is in Sept. I figure while she is at school DH & I will set up the surprise on her bed. So far I bought her a Mickey & Minnie tshirt, I will put the magic bands with it, a stuffed Mickey Mouse, Mickey balloons. What are some other cute things I can include that are Disney/trip related? I don't want to go crazy & spend a ton of money since I have already spent it all on this trip lol! But I just really want this to be special for her.

Her first suitcase. :)

I still remember mine...a kiddie hardshell Samsonite about the size of a briefcase. It had decals on it that looked like novelty bumper stickers and postcards from Route 66.

That's a great idea! She has one though, brand new. She picked it out herself about 2 weeks ago. :)

That's so cute! Maybe you could buy her a princess dress of her favorite? You might be able to find better deals in the real world instead of Disney and then she can pack it and wear it during the trip.

That's a nice idea! Do they sell them anywhere other than the Disney stores? I imagine their prices are as high at the parks.

They are indeed expensive at the parks. I would check the places like Target. They may not be official Disney-certified merchandise, but they are close enough.

Last year my son and his family joined us for an October trip. He and his wife did not tell their little one 4 and 7 until the night before. DIL had a puzzle made that said "we're going to Disney" and had the girls put the puzzle together. I took them a few seconds to actually get the message, but it was worth the 7 month wait to see their faces.

We did not tell our girls the first time, we just told them we were going on a trip, they figured it out when we got on the DME and started watching the video...it was really funny.

How about a special note from "Mickey"? Our trip this past June was a surprise trip for our kids and I attached a note to the mickey balloons I bought. On the cover the note said "Mickey is so excited...", then on the inside it said "to see you tomorrow and spend the next 10 days with you at Walt Disney World...", and on the back cover it said "so go to bed early tonight because you have to get up early tomorrow to get to the airport for your flight." The signature read "See ya real soon!" Mickey Mouse It was a big hit with my kids. So that may be an idea for you. I hope you have a great trip!!

That's awesome that you're taking her on a surprise trip.

Coincidentally I'm surprising my 9 year old with a trip for just her and I in early September too! I've got 3 kids and plan to bring each of them separately to have some fun kid/dad time down there (and also because my wife isn't as much of a WDW fan as I am).

good luck with the surprise!

It's okay to use things she already has (like her suitcase). I think what you have is great already, but you could pose it all with the suitcase and add some things you might be getting anyway, like new socks, poncho, travel toothbrush, etc. The moment of surprise is what you're going for, after that the trip itself will overwhelm any particular items you get. You just need to create a good visual. She'll be so excited!

We got small disney gift cards for our kids' first surprise trip. They loved these and still have them as collectors items. Also cut down on asking for money during the trip. They knew they each had $20 to spend and that was it.

Have fun!

Oh I forgot I did get her a $100 Disney gift card to spend! Thank you so much for all the great ideas! I know for sure I will do the card from Mickey & I want to buy her a Princess dress too! I made a little list of things to get her from all your suggestions. Thanks sooooo much for helping to make this special for my little one!

We're surprising our kids (3 and 5 years old) with our trip in September. We got each of them one of the mickey ear hats that you always see in the parks to wrap up and give them to reveal it. We're also gonna put a letter with each hat from their favorite characters telling them all the trip details. We're driving, so we're going to tell them we are going somewhere else far away (haven't decided exactly where yet) and then whenever we can't keep it a secret any longer we'll give them the hats/letters. I hope we get all the way to Orlando before we have to tell them, but that's probably wishful thinking lol

We're also going to surprise them on the day we arrive by going to Disney On Ice: Frozen at the Amway Center in Orlando. When the show was announced I checked the schedule to see if it was going to come to a city near us and was surprised to see its very first show of the whole tour was in Orlando the night we were set to arrive! We weren't going to any of the parks until day two so it was just too perfect to pass up
