Hi guys in 15 days i will be going back to disney and universal, aswell as busch and seaworld, for the first time in 3 years.:sohappy:
last time i missed out on some rides like kraken, the hulk,dr doom to name a few because of 1 thing.......my fear of heights.
this time round i would like to atleast try to get on the hulk, escape from mount everest and soarin.
i was kinda lookin forward to soarin untill i watched a home made video where they actually looked like they were sitting in the air omg,
and the only thing about everest was the climb to the top of the mountain.
i managed tower of terror, splash mountain, space mountain to name a few but i just havnt got the courage to get on the other and now im gettin stick off my father-in-law and my gf because of this.
can any1 give me advice on how i can over come this fear or just any advice at all.
thanx.

Don't be seated in the front row. Seeing other people in front of you should be somewhat reassuring and give you a lot less feeling of just hanging out of nowhere with no support. This advice is especially helpful if you are considering riding the Hulk. My daughters tricked me into going in the front-row line, and with the magnetic acceleration start, was like being launched into nothingness at a very substantial speed. (I'm glad I did it but it freaked me out at the time.)

Soar'n is a very gentle ride and shouldn't be a problem (just remember, you are strapped in, so you're in no way going to fall).

If you can do Tower of Terror, you can do them all in Disney. Soarin isnt scary at all. try to get on a bottem row, they dont go up as high...Its an awsome attraction u cant miss it! Everest is really fun to, just close your eyes on the climb part, thats another ride u cant miss. The Hulk is soooo fun, its just alittle intimidating.

First of all, let me assure you that you are not alone in your fear of heights. Many people feel exactly the same way, and there is certainly nothing wrong with it. My son feels the same way, and he probably always will. But when we go on vacation he has a great time too, even though his idea of fun might not be the same as other people's. It's all good, and you shouldn't feel any remorse about it.

That being said, I'd recommend that you try Soarin' at least. yes, the seats rise in the air, but after that, you're basically just sitting watching a beautiful movie on an I-Max type screen. I love it, and I'm not that fond of heights myself.
Once you conquer that, you might feel confident enough to try a few others. (Frankly, you'd have to medicate me to get me on the Hulk!) But if you don't, why not plan to be the photographer for the group, or just the "keeper of the hats and bags" as we call our son. Why spoil your vacation worrying about it - there are lots of things you can do there and still have fun - don't let others spoil it for you!

Incidentally, how is it that you have a Father-in-law and a girlfriend - sounds like you're having your own kind of fun! :D

Soaring is awesome! If my 3 year old (at the time) can handle it so can you. He really enjoyed it. I agree with not sitting in the front row. We were in it and at first my son and daughter were a little scared. Just ask the CM about sitting behind the first row. I'm sure if you explain it they will let you. I rode Everest too and I have to say that I don't like the climb either, but I'm glad I rode it. Just look straight ahead or close your eyes.

As for your family getting on you, just tell them to stuff it! Not everyone likes the thrill rides. My hubby hates roller coasters but rides them with our daughter if no one else will. I have never gotten on him for not wanting to ride something.

Could you please change your font size. It's a bit annoying.
Thanks!

I'm not really afraid of heights, so it's a little hard to comment, but I don't think Everest should be bad, because it's partially enclosed. You're never up in the air with nothing around you like you are on Kraken. And when you're going up that big hill, just remember there's no big drop on the other side (when the drop does come, it's so fast, it's not really like you're up in the air dangling).

Kraken - forget it. I wouldn't even try that one if you're afraid of heights, and Hulk is probably similar, though it didn't seem as tall to me (been a while for that one though).

I don't think Soarin should be bad since it's an illusion and you aren't really up that high. If it gets too much, just close your eyes and you're sitting on a bench with your feet dangling.

You may also tell the cast-member you're afraid of heights and request the last row. That row isn't very far from the floor during the ride.

And once you do any of them once, I think you'll find they're not so bad, so the second time should be a lot easier.

 I am very afraid of heights. My stomach always does a number on me. that being said, I decided to try Soarin. It didnt bother me at all. I have been in the 2nd and 3rd rows both. its not that bad, really. the movie is so amazing you wont think a thing of it. I just dont do coasters and no one bothers me about it. I still have a magical time at Disney as always!! Just relax and have fun. you are at Disney!!

You will be fine. Soarin is great and I never once felt like I would fall. It was milder than I thought it would be. On EE, I was scared to get on it because it goes backwards for a few seconds. I just knew I would get sick, but I didn't and it was GREAT! My little boy, 6, loved it too. Just don't look down while you are going up the hill and you'll be fine.:)

By the way, It sounds like you should just go ahead and give in because your future family will never let you live it down.

You're from South Wales?
Follow this example of courage-

Battle of Rorke's Drift
The defence of Rorke's Drift took place on 22 January 1879, when just 145 soldiers from the 24th Foot,
which later became the South Wales Borderers,
held off an army of about 4,000 Zulu warriors at a border post in South Africa.

"There is no doubt about it, they would have been absolutely scared stiff, without a shadow of a doubt every one of those men were heroes because to survive what they did was unbelievable."

The defenders of Rorke's Drift were awarded 11 Victoria Crosses.

Did you say you need help pleasing guys?!! After reading the title with the missing comma, I thought I had logged onto the wrong forum! :ROFLOL:

Anyway, whatever you end up doing, don't force yourself to do something that you don't want to do. What's the fun in that? Fortunately, the bulk of the attractions at WDW are not thrill rides, so there will be plenty of things for you to enjoy. As others have said, at least try Soarin'. It is surprisingly gentle and as enjoyable as any of the thrill rides (save ToT!)

My DH2B is TERRIFIED of heights. However, he is a roller coaster JUNKIE! The harnesses are tested daily. They work. If anything isn't kosher about the ride's workings, a computer pulls all trains, cars, etc.. back to their respective stations and the rides are closed.

And as far as soarin goes... try to sit in the back row so you'll be lowest to the ground. AND if you do get stuck in the front... the worst that could possibly happen to you IF you fall.. which you wont because of all the fail safes Disney has put into place.... is you'll sprain and ankle or break an arm.

I'm scared of everything and these thoughts from DH2B put me at ease... now I'm a thrill junkie... the Disney way atleast.
