help me decide

So at this point im about 90 % sure my sister and I are meeting in Florida for a vacation in October. Of course we are going there for Disney only and thats why im here again :)

I want some advice deciding where to stay, when to go, rental car or not, stuff like that.
Weve stayed at the All star resorts before and most like will again since the price is usually pretty cheap. But name the ones a step above them , because that maybe an option also.
ive read many things good and bad about the food options, i guess im just confused about them and a bit weary since my sister in law had a bad experience with it when we were there last time. is there a place with great information, something better then the WDW website?
Would you recommend any books? I remember when i went with my GF about 10 years ago i bought a book and loved it .Helped me know what rides i would go on or not and how fast they were.
Would you rent a car? This is why im thinking for a day or so to rent one. I know there's a Wal-Mart near there and might need to pick up things i may have forgotten or food.
Speaking of food, what can you take in the parks? I swore i read someone that water was one of the things you can take in, but im a diabetic and might need other things too
Well sorry this was so long, hopefully ill get lots of responses with good idea's. And trust me ill be back with more questions im sure :)

The resorts a step up are the moderatres: Coronado Springs, Carribean Beach, and Port Orleans(French Quarter and Riverside). Different people prefer different moderate resorts. I have stayed at CS abd CB, and prefer CS. I would recommend it, especially if you get the dinning plan. If you opt to stay at one of the values, I would recommend Pop Century over any of the All Stars. Better bus service, and newer buildings. The theme may be more appealling to you also, as an adult.

You can take almost any food or beverage into the park within reason. Outside of reason would include alcohol, glass containers, and coolers.

If you are looking for a book that is a great resource, I have found the Unoffical Guide to Walt Disney World to be excellent. It can give you much more info about the resorts, eateries, and rides, including speeds and thrill factor.

Hope you get to go.

I hope I'm allowed to say this (lol)

Take a look on the website www.allears.net

They have tons of information regarding lodging, the actual meal menus and pricing, parks, individual rides, all sorts of variables and factors. It should give you the info you are looking for :)
