Help -- Leaving Tomorrow

A bit of pannic, I've been reading that transportation from All Star Movies is rough.

I found a cheap rental for the week for under $150.

Is the poor shuttle service worth getting a last minute car? We are also eating at other resorts twice which I understand can be very lengthy.

Travelling with a 4yr old.

TIA!

imo a rental is not worth it. I was there in May and stayed at the Pop century resort. The bus stop is close to the ALL-Star resort bus stops and they did not seem to wait that mucg more then we did and our wait was not bad. I was also traveling with a 2 yrs old and a 9mth old and wasn't a big issue We have rented a car before to get from the airport to the resorts (prior to the disney shuttle) and we never drove from the resort to the park always used the Buses.

Hi Tia... I would go for the rental. I stayed at an all-star during Sept one year and the buses took a very long time. With all of the people taking advantage of the summer specials there, it might get crazy. I am traveling in Nov w/a 3 yo and we are driving. With a car you can leave when you want/ need to. You can wind up waiting for a bus w/ a cranky, tired little one on your hands. Not a way for you or your child to enjoy the trip. My advice is....rent one to save your own sanity. :hammer: Have a great time!

I stayed at All Star Movies in February and it wasn't too horrible. The ride back when the parks closed were kinda rough, but not awful.

HOWEVER, you ARE going during a rough time in general...especially with all this dining plan stuff going on! I would say it's up to you...but it was very full when I went in February which isn't as crowded as this time of year.

I would say rent a vehicle to be on the safe side. Just my opinion!

Don't waste your money, the bus service is ample. Just make sure you time your arrival to the station so as not to join the swarm.

As that last poster said if you time your arrival and departers right then there should not be much of a wait. Basically don't try to leave around lunch time or at the end of the day. MAybe leave an hour before the close or during the firework/illumination shows at the parks, the lines should be lighter. Also we used creative ways to get around. For example we wanted to get over the Epcot during a bout 2 hours before illuminations. Well the lines was extremly long so we jumped on the Bus for the Boardway where there was very little wait and then walked into EPCOT. Also we took the MGM Bus one morning cause it was empty when we wanted to go to EPCOT and then took the boat over to EPCOT saved alot of time.

No Rental Needed

We stayed at the All Star Sports for a week in June. The busses stop at all All Star resorts regularly.
We never had to wait for more than a few minutes for a bus to anywhere we wanted to go.

Have a great time.

Rent One!

When we went two years with a 4-year-old, 2-year-old, and a nine-month-old and stayed at Fort Wilderness, we rented a minivan just so we wouldn't have to cart the double stroller on the buses all of the time. It was great and worth every penny. We could go other places to eat and we could drive ourselves to Walmart, if we needed something. Personally, I thought it was great and we're renting one this September when we go back.

Get the car, buses don't take you to other resorts (outside the all star), you said you'd be eating at other resorts. Its much more enjoyable being able to just up and go when you please rather than wait for a bus.

Just got back with an 8 month old from the All Star Music.. didn't have a single problem with teh buses the entire time... the buses make traveling easy and simple. I even went several places on my own with tthe baby and a stroller.... still was a snap. I'd rather wait 10 min for a bus than walk 15 and have to find parking... the buses are great - i would save the $150 - have patience... time your leave, and have fun! :)

If you can afford the car, go for it. Its a pain to take a bus to a park just to board a second bus to get to a restaurant at a different hotel. Not a good use of vacation time IMHO. Plus, driving makes it easy to go offsite for less expensive supplies, souvenirs, photo cds, etc. -- and to get to fun places the WDW buses don't stop like the mini-golf courses on grounds.

I would go with using the transportation at WDW. You could save a lot of money that way and with gas prices on a days I would use the transportation at Disney.

Has anybody ever really used more than a tank of gas? A fillup on a 20 gal take is $60. That's not that much. I'd easily cut out a sit down meal for the freedom of a car. Besides, car time is nap time! No better time for kiddos to get recharged for a night of fun.

Exactly, you're not going cross country, just from resort to park. You don't use that much gas. And you're right it is nap time, even I enjoy napping in the car on the way to the parks.

We went in April 2006 and stayed off property for the first time in 8 yrs. I MISSED THE BUSSES!!!. We have a 2 yr old and I would rather lug my stoller onto the busses that the parking lot trams.

We drive down everytime we go and never even use our car once we get there (except to go to the outlet malls). If you aren't going to veture off of Disney property, then the rental car is not worth the $$.

Instead of spending the $150 on a car, use it for a Disney Dinner show (Hoo-Dee-Do review or Spirit of Aloha).

Also, sometimes it is fun to be creative with your transportation and you may get to see some areas of the resort that you normally would not. I hope you have a GREAT trip!!

I love the free transportation, now I don't have any kids... so I couldn't tell you about luggin' them along.. but I can say that I didnt have a problem with it. We stayed at Pop Century and had to wait maybe at the most 15 min for a bus back in March.

I like to think of the disney buses as my personal DD.

haha :king:

I think $60 is alot, but that's a whole other issue having nothing to do with WDW! :zipit:

I don't think we've ever used more than 1/3 of a tank of gas at WDW. We still utilized the buses at times but it was sure nice to have the freedom of the car at our disposal. And playing mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens, one of our most fun memories, never would have happened if we hadn't had our vehicle. (I suppose we could have arranged for a ride or whatever, but probably wouldn't have bothered to do so).

I've never had problems with busses, and I've stayed at most every resort. If you don't know your way around the property, it's not an easy drive. If you think its a hassle getting on a bus or monorail after fireworks...just try getting to then out of the parking lot. The only time I think this might be of value is if you're doing a lot off property.

If you think about it $60 is less money that you have in your wallet and could spend on other thing at the parks.
