Help I'm Stressing

My June trip planning was going along swimmingly until today!:) Last night our local teachers voted to authorize a strike for April and if they go on strike I may not be able to go until next year!:( My dh probably can't move this year's vacation so if they go over 5 days we will have to rebook for next year. So do I hope my dh can reschedule for August and go without my favorite adrs or reschedule for next year and have a real blow out of a trip add a few days and book more adrs. Maybe even get over to Universal for 2 days? They have until April 18th to figure the whole thing out so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! At least if I have to reschedule Mine Train Coaster will be open!

If you were to go in August...I can tell you that my August 2011 trip was the easiest time I've ever had with ADRs. We didn't book until nearly April- so I was already behind on ADRs...to top it off, I added the DxDP in late July- had to add 3 meals to make up for the extra credits...and still wound up getting everything I wanted to add...and all with very little stalking. In fact, I was a little depressed over the lack of ADR stalking required for the August trip.

It would break my heart if you had to wait until 2014.:( But, you got to do what you got to do!;) WV will not allow us to strike. They added on 5 days to our calendar, so I am definitely missing those 2 teacher days ( haven't said anything yet). WV law still states that the last day of school can not go beyond June 7th. But, the new governor will probably change that law ( we used to get so much more snow- they don't "build in" any days)!
I guess the best thing is to hope there is no strike. You'll be able to "cancel" by April 25 I believe ( the 45 day mark w/ no penalty).
Another good thing is definitely the Mine Train and planning a more extravagant trip for 2014!:)
Thinking about you....

Hate to hear about anyones trip to Disney being cancelled or postponed. Should be a law against it.

So what would happen if your kids did miss 10 days of school? Call Social Services? Kick your kids out of school? Fail them and make them repeat the year?
Both and what gets me is my younger ds already has more than quadruple the amount of reading required for the year straight As and only missed 1 day of school after breaking an arm in 2 places requiring surgery on their property! He even tried to sneak into class the next morning when we went to pick up his books!

Here's hoping it all works out, funny there are things brewing where I work too but I'm actually calm about it as it's a pretty toxic atmosphere and I know where the door is closing the window is being flung open! Keep us posted my friend.

So let me make sure I am getting this straight - they would call SS and kick your kids out of school?

What? Not saying this is appropriate for you (only you can deicde what that is), but if it were me, I would tell them, try it. There would be lawsuits and bad publicity galore. Probably not a lot of sympathy for taking them out of school to go to WDW, but that is completely unreasonable interference in family life. Especially if your kids are good students.

This boils my blood, and especially when schools allow all kinds of kids with horrible behavior problems to stay and hold teachers and other students hostage to their behavior. Not to mention SS should be focusing on REAL problems. I had a family member who worked for a local social services for a few years. The stories would make you sick to your stomach. And most of those weren't taken from these parents either. It is atrocious for a school to waste the already stretched thin SS resources over parents taking their kids to WDW.

I really hope this all works out for you, however that is!

I would get with your kids teachers and see if they would be ok with your kids missing if your kids did a project about their trip (as a teacher myself I would allow it). Then I would take personal time and keep my trip as planned
