Some info...

My wife just got a promotion with her job and we will be moving to Tallahassee. I dont know anything about Tallahassee at all.

How far is it from Disney World. How far from the Gulf???

Which parts of town are nice and where do I look for a place to live.

SHe will be working near FSU so is it realistic to live near the Gulf for her????

If there is anyone from the area please let me know a little about the area.

Tallahassee is about the farthest place in Florida from any coast line.

It is about 3 hours drive from me in Pensacola Beach and maybe 1.5 hours or so from Panama City Beach.

It is approximatly smack dab between pensacola and jacksonville.

Interesting note: The reason Tallahassee became our state capitol is because the politicians could not agree on whether to make Pensacola or Jacksonville the capitol -- so they decided to make the capitol the place (in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the woods) where the trail from pensacola to jacksonville was bisected.

You can probably be at some gulf areas within an hour though... maybe apalachacola which is a beautiful area and not heavily populated.

From Disney World, Tallahassee is about 3.5 to 4 hours drive.

But not to be too sour and bring bad news to you, the woodlands surrounding Tallahassee are beautiful and there a number of wonderful state parks within easy driving distance.

The only real bad thing (aside from living in a capitol city) is that for someone who wishes to move to Florida for the beaches, Tallahassee is the last place you'd want to live.

Thank you guys for your replies it will help alot. I really like that I am only going to be about 3.5 or so hours away from WDW. That is not a bad drive at all.

Well, an old friend of mine from high school went to school in Tampa, and her old boyfriend's dad and stepmom live in a house on Lower Diana Lake. It is the nicest neighborhood. I stayed there once when visiting her, and although it was in the middle of nowhere (like everyplace around there) it was quiet and beautiful. There are alot of waterfront areas around there.
