Easy: :lookaroun

  • Plan everything at least 6 months in advance and make ADRs!
  • Prepare to pace yourselves and take breaks if needed to avoid meltdowns of parents or children.
  • Don't expect to do everything, it's not possible.
  • Understand FPs and use them!
  • Ask for help.
  • Scour WDWMagic for info.

thanks montymon, but i was thinking more like things that would get my friend excited for her first visit to the world. i also want to give her an idea of what to expect on our trip since she has never been there before. i'm taking care of all of the major planning (asking her what she wants to do of course! ) does anyone have any ideas of additional things to get my friend excited and informed for her first disney trip? :lookaroun

Go to the website of the resort you are staying at and print that out. Then, get the maps of all the parks and the bus schedules and put them into an envelope for her to explore. Get the trip planning CD - that always gets me going and will give a good overview of the parks and attractions! Enjoy:D

Yes, the trip planning dvd is great - and it's free! We are taking my kids' godfather to wdw for his first trip, and we let him watch that and choose what resort he wanted to stay in (he chose two so we're staying at both!). He had a very hard time visualizing how big it was and what the parks were like until he saw the video.

Also, make sure she has sunscreen, sunglasses, comfy shoes and some kind of backpack/hip pack (not a purse) to take to the parks with her. Remind her to pack layers (unless it's the middle of summer). I think the Complete Guide to Disney World is a great get-excited, and informative book. It's a little pricey for the newest edition, but you can probably find a used one from a couple years ago on amazon or ebay for pretty cheap. The info. would be generally the same.

On a side note, the godfather said to us the other day, "I've been watching the Disney channel to prepare for Disney world, and I can't figure out how they put stuff from all those shows into the parks." We cracked up! and we told him disney channel has virtually nothing to do with wdw (thank heavens!).

I'd get her an autograph book and one of those fat pens! Hey she may not be a kid but going to WDW brings out the kid in everyone - I even enjoy getting autographs and photos with characters!

You can make personalized maps on the WDW site and have Disney send them to you or just print them at home. That way you can poor over all the attractions and note the ones you must do.
