help blurry digital pictures

could you describe the shooting situations where this is happening, or perhaps post some sample pictures.

also, are you using manual or automatic settings on your camera, as well as the camera make and model...

it could be happening for any number of reasons. your camera might be adjusting for lower light situations, and using a slower shutter speed, or it just might be set incorrectly. the more info you can provide, the easier it will be to figure out what is happening...

posting a picture isn't entirely necessary, but it would help to see exactly what you're talking about. the settings on the camera are more important. what i'm looking to find out is what mode you have your camera in, how it compensates for low light situations, the metering mode and such...

thought you're not shooting on film anymore, basic photographic techniques are still very apparent. the most likely cause of your blur is by the camera compensating for low light situations by slowing down the shutter speed. i want to make sure that your ISO is set to AUTO to compensate for the 'films' sensativity to light. if not, you'll want to make sure you adjust that to try and keep your shutter speed as fast as possible to prevent motion blur or camera shake.

i'll check in tonight when you've had a chance to post more info and we can take it from there... i'm sure photodave will stop by too to help out, as he definately knows his stuff...

When my folks had this problem - and the photos were very blury, they had accidently put the camera into macro mode, which is for taking photos very close up!

....or you could have it set for 'night vision' (the little half moon icon) for taking pics with low light and with what I call "slow motion"... if you don´t have a tripod, they may be blurry, because the exposure is longer.

It could also be the 'delay' that most digital cameras have, after you press the shutter button..

Not quite as fast as the shutter opening on a 'real' camera, as it has to do a lot more, obviously. My friends would always move the camera too fast after pushing the shutter button, and then have blurry pictures. If it happens all the time, just delay moving the camera away for a split second longer.

Im thinking slow exposure or camera shake. Can you give us the details of how when and where?

And no, it probably has nothing to do with lag unless you move the camera while its taking the picture.....

I am also leaning towards camera shake. There are a lot of possibilities (bad iso, macro mode, accidentally left camera in manual focus, etc), but camera shake is the most common problem (assuming everything else is fine)

My guess is that as these are both indoors when the flash did not go off and so the shutter remained open for longer to compensate. If you are hand holding the camera it will blur. Cameras have a setting to turn the flash off, maybe this was selected by mistake?

i think that the flash is selected to auto come on but i'm not sure. is it just from holding the camera? maybe thats the problem. my husband took both of theese. maybe he moves to m uch while taking the picture?

If my last post is correct and the flash did not fire then camera shake will show regardless of who is holding it. Alternatively the flash did fire, but your husband's finger was obscuring the flash.
