Help & Advice Needed - 2nd week of October

So we have the opportunity to go back October 5-October 12 of 2013. My question is - who has been during this time? What is the weather like? Hot? Unbearable? Rain? Hurricanes?

My daughter is off school this week and according to the crowd calendar it looks like a good time to go, however, my husband doesn't tolerate heat very well.

We just went 11/29-12/8 and it was in the high 70's the whole time and he was hot then.

Should we risk it? I really want to go and attend MNSSHP!!

Advice please!!

If the 70's bothered him he will more than likely not be able to take October. Highs in 80's are not that uncommon in October. We had a somewhat cool October this year, but it is nothing I would count on.

We were there the week after Columbus day this year and there was only one day that made us bail out of the parks due to heat. Crowds on the weekends for the Food&Wine Festival make EPCOT seem hotter than it is I think so steer clear of that and AK always seems hot because there are not that many open spaces for breezes to permeate. Like Yoda said if he was hot in 70 degree weather then early to mid October may not be his cup-o-tae!

FYI. Looking at weather records, that week of Oct. for 2012 had highs of 84-89 and lows of 70-75. The humidity is still going to be high too unless you happen to catch some of the first cool fronts coming through in the fall, but I wouldn't count on it.

We have taken all of our WDW trips in early October, usually the first full week. Our first year (2007) it was VERY hot...mid 90's and humid everyday. But, we had no rain! Second trip (2010), the temps were much milder...low 80's and again, no rain. This year, we had highs in the mid-high 90's and heat indexes over 100 several days. Humidity was high and it rained everyday...not just rain, storms!

Still, we don't let the weather get us down and just make accommodations. This year we had to go back to the room midday to sit out the worst of the heat and avoid some of the storms. Several nights we just had to slog through the rain and even ate our way around the WS at F & W Festival in the pouring rain.

So, my general observation is that early October is still fairly hot and humid....but much less hot and humid then June, July, August and September! We have never had a hurricane or tropical storm during our visits.

We went the third week of October in 2009. We absolutely loved it. Weather was mostly in the 70s but one day reached to the high 80s (which was actually too hot for us since it was the day we were going to MNSSHP and we had heavy costumes but que sera sera). If 70s are too hot for your husband, you probably won't want October, as said above, but I highly recommend October for the low crowds, MNSSHP, Food & Wine Festival, nice weather, and often Free Dining promotions.

Yep, I have to agree. This past October was kind of on the cool side, but two years ago we landed at 9am and it was already in the high 80s, the coolest daytime temperature the entire week was 89. Unfortunately, that time of year, you will always run the risk of a hurricane forming.

We have only visited in October and we love it. Of course we also like it warmer though. It is a great time to go as others have said (MNSSHP, F&W, Eat to the Beat). It will be warm though. As for hurricanes, we have never had any major issues in ten trips.

It will be hot. This is also the tail end of hurricane season. At least #s are on your side there. That being said low crowds a special Mickey event Halloween decorations and lots of ac I would risk it but I usually go early to mid June.

We can't go in early, mid June - my daughter doesn't get out of school until June 13 and I feel June will be hotter than October.

How old is your DD? We usually pull our DD out of school for the trip but she is 9 so older kids may have difficulty keeping up in school. Our plans are to keep doing this until she reaches middle school but then at that point we think it may make things too strenuous on her academically to keep up. Maybe consider over a weekend with Friday, Monday, Tuesday? Just a thought to try and make it work for everybody.

If the choice is between June and October, go with October. The hubby is just going to have to suck it up in regards to the heat. About the only time you will get temperatures consistently below 70 will be in January and February and even that is somewhat of a long shot.

She is 5, so next year she will be in 1st grade and I really don't want to pull her out of school. We did it for kindergarten and she didn't miss much, but I hate for her to miss anything important in 1st grade.

We have done it every other year since she was 3. Her teachers have always been onboard and OK with it. Every child is different but we have never had any issues. No matter when you go I am sure once you are there it will be great!:)

First grade?! You could pull her out for a few days all the way through Middle School without her missing anything she couldn't make up. We just took the kids out of school for 2 days from 6th and 8th grades respectively, and they missed nothing they couldn't easily catch up on. I pulled them out for a whole week for Disney when they were in 3rd and 5th grades, and they missed nothing significant. Don't be bound by the school calendar for a first grader! (FYI, my parents pulled me out of school for various vacations nearly every single year, and I was my high school's valedictorian, so I know from whence I speak.)

we have attended MNSSHP twice. both the second week of october.
first year- freezing cold- winter coat weather. we brought mickey and minnie costumes and froze our little tushes off
second year- wised up- made fleece costumes of pooh and company so we wouldn't freeze. record highs of 100-105 every day. we lost about 5 pounds of water weight, in sweat during the party.
bottom line- you pay your money- you take your chances
no way to predict what it will be.
go anyway- buy him a mister and tell him to suck it up- it's worth it for the party
