Hello all, I am new to the site and enjoying the vast resources of information available! We have been to Disney numerous times but have never stayed on site. This year my wife and I are going all out and have planned our "Dream" vacation at the Poly the first week of November! My question is, I notice many people asking about "special requests" on their reservation prior to check in. What type of "special requests" can be made? (I don't want to miss out :))
Thank you in advance for your help!

I think the biggest one for the Poly would be the room location/floor #. ie, close to the pool, end of the hallway, by an elevator, or just off the lobby. You just can't request anything that they would normally charge extra for such as view.

You can also make requests to the Disney Florists. They can leave a bouquet in your room or make a nice little presentation with flowers and chocolates as a surprise for your wife. Basically any little bit of extra magic you may think of they may be able to do. But remember a pixie's worth of magic could mean a boat load of extra dollars. Get in contact with the Poly and ask about options and costs :)

It never hurts to mention that it's your first time on property fulfilling your dream. The CM may just notate that and possibly send some extra magic your way.

Have you ever been at the beginning of November before? That is my dream. Sometime around the 2nd or 3rd or so, the Magic Kingdom transforms. One day it is fall and almost over night it is decorated for Christmas!

Welcome to WDWMAGIC!

My advice would be to not get too hung up on requests. In many cases, they cannot be accommodated, and this tends to lead to disappointment and questioning of "why did so-and-so get an upgrade and I didn't."

Have a great time! You have chosen a great time to go to the Poly now that the vast majority of the work there is complete.

I guess it depends on what you're thinking of with special requests. Some things can be selected when you do online check in a the 60 day mark. We stayed at the Poly last year and I think I made the following selections for room preferences at this point.
1. selected a building
2. asked for a room with a balcony

Anything beyond that is iffy unless you're paying for it.

Certainly, don't be afraid to ask if you have any requests regarding medical needs or other special requirements you might need due to issues beyond your control. For instance, when my mother and I went back in 2013 at All-Star Music, many of the rooms were undergoing some maintenance with the refrigerators/ coolers. Now my mother is a diabetic and needs a small fridge for her insulin. She called up and the Cast Members came through and got us a room with a fridge.

Great advice! Yes we went last year at the same time and loved it!! The transformation from fall to holiday season was spectacular in the parks! Hopefully the same for resorts!

My sister and her family are going the same week you are, so now I'm jealous of both of you.

The only other advice I have is, don't ask a question like you are entitled. Magic happens all over Disney World. If you expect something for free (like an upgrade) you probably won't get it. Just be amazed by the whole new experience. If more magic comes your way, so much the better.

Tinman, we share the same birthday and the Wizard of Oz is my wife's favorite movie. "It's a small world after all!"

Wow... you really are going all out. First time on-site at WDW and you are staying at the Poly! I have 25+ visits staying on-site, and although I would love to stay there, have never been able to justify the expense... either in dollars or DVC points. I finally made it to the Contemporary last year so who knows... the Poly may be in my near future. As for special requests, pretty much what others have said... requests for building and floor/location are usually honored if possible, but anything beyond that probably not. One time I was offered a free upgrade to the concierge floor at the Yacht Club... I had not requested any type of upgrade and have no idea why it was offered, but I sure enjoyed it!

Have a great time... it is my all-time dream resort. :)

As others have mentioned, it doesn't hurt to ask. Just know we have made requests, which they note and with which they say they will try to accommodate, but there is never guarantee. We have never had our requests granted and we still enjoyed our stay nonetheless.

I always make 2 requests:
1. A room not on the ground floor
2. A single king-sized(or queen, I really just need/want 1 bed in the room) bed.

The first one is always my first priority and has always been granted, the second has never been, but I know the amount of rooms with a just 1 bed is very few. It never hurts to ask, just be polite, and hopefully they can fulfill your request, or at least part of it.

This is great to know! The one request I would want is to not be on a ground floor! Thank you!

So far we have never NOT had a request honored. We have asked for first floor, near a bus stop, quiet area, etc. and have always been accommodated. Even choice of village at Caribbean Beach resort was honored. Granted, we typically go only when it's slow time. I'll consider myself lucky!
