DVC is not for everybody. Luckily it works for us. I bought most of my points around 20 years ago when things were not insane.
When we go with the entire family we use a 2BR, when my wife and I go alone we use a Studio - so the points work for us
The 2BR with the kitchen also saves us money because we make breakfast in the room, and we keep snacks there too.
Since my wife is a teacher, and the district she teaches in set up calendars in 3 year blocks, booking at 11 months out is not an issue for us - we know vacations 3 years in advance sometimes.
We do not go to WDW as much as we used to now (since airfare and park admission has become insane), and if I was in the market right now, I would not buy DVC. But we have it, we do use it, and we have used it for other things bedsides WDW, such as Hilton Head (and our yet to happen, ever postponed, Hawaii trip).
