Does anyone know of any restrictions on the use of Heely's at WDW? My kids got them to use at WDW , we are seeing some restrictions at mall's and stores here and I was hoping there weren't any at WDW. Thanks for any info!

We saw kids wearing them in Disney, but many times CMs told them they have to walk, that heely's were not allowed. Most of the times they kids were walking or just starting to go on their heels. They can get hurt pretty bad if they are not careful, as I see many kids even around our local mall using them and almost falling on their butts

From allearsnet.com:

I just read a tip on the All Ears® newsletter that "Heelys" are no longer allowed in Disney World. Can you verify if this is true? I was just buying my niece and nephews Heelys as well as a pair for myself to cruise around the parks on our family reunion event in May. When I was there last year every kid had them on. Has something happened?

Answer:
This is not a new policy. Wheeled footwear such as "Heely"-type shoes, in-line skates, and roller skates have always been banned from the parks. This is also true of scooters and skateboards. It appears that park management has finally decided to fully enforce this rule, probably due to the fact that so many people are suddenly arriving in the parks wearing "Heelys."

I've recently heard rumors that guests wearing "Heelys" were threatened with fines, so to avoid an unpleasant experience, it would be better to leave the wheels at home.

They are not permitted in the parks. The following is cut and pasted from www.disneyworld.com park FAQ page(I bolded the part that pertains to you):

"Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

  • Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller"

Heelys are fine -- as long as the wheels are removed. For safety reasons almost any CM will ask you to remove the wheels if your children are seen rolling by. It's not meant to be another mean rule, but rather for the best interest of you and other guests at WDW. I know from experience, that a lot of guests get angry at the sight of those things.

I have seen so many kids, wearing Heeley's, run into other people and bump into things at the supermarket. They just weren't looking where they were going. I know, it happens even if they aren't wearing them, but in a large crowd of people with little kids around, it's a recipe for disaster. I will never buy those for my son, but I am sure there will be the 'new thing' when he is old enough to want things.

Heeleys are not allowed at WDW. Paeople break the rules all the time; some get caught, some don't. But Heeleys are not allowed at WDW.

Any other discussion will drift into parenting complaints, justification for "bending the rules", example of witnessing child using them while CMs did nothing, and reasons pro and con using them, etc..

But the official stance is that Heelys are not allowed in WDW.
