Lots of people prefer Disneyland/DCA in California better than WDW because there are lots of "E-Ticket" attractions in a small amount of space. Same concept here.

Not sure where you get 'lots of people'. WDW gets more visitors than Disneyland resort. MK has more visitors than DL. Every other WDW park beats DCA by quite a bit in attendance.

I'm not saying that there aren't people who prefer DL, but the reasons I usually hear for that have more to do with the theming/atmosphere.

I actually know quite a few that are the opposite- they prefer WDW to CA because they feel there is more to do there with 4 parks and 2 water parks compared to just 2 parks in CA. And a huge amount that go to WDW and have never been to CA and no desire to go because of that impression.

I prefer Disneyland, but I think a large percentage of people who agree with me on that are people who not only have been to the parks on both coasts but are more Disneyphiles than the population at large.

What? Personal preference has nothing to do with attendance numbers. MK/WDW is a park that caters to tourists from around the world, Disneyland caters, mostly, to regional residents.

If you grow up in SoCal and know the intimacy of Disneyland, visiting WDW with so many attractions spread out and two parks that are, essentially, half day experiences, you might prefer Disneyland - feeling you can get a lot more done in a shorter amount of time. I prefer WDW, but can see the argument if that is what you are used to.

I totally reject the idea that most parks at WDW are half day experiences. And yes, I'm sure that some people prefer DL. That's fine. Personal preference is personal preference. But I don't think the vast majority of people even think about or pay attention to ride count. I know many people (non-Disneyfiles) who have been on trips and have spent multiple days at AK, multiple days at MK, and multiple days at Epcot. DHS is the one where most people I know spend a day or less there, but even then most have not seen all the shows to death and are able to easily fill a full day.

Funny, are we not going to parks for enjoyment --and the longer that enjoyment lasts the better? I like a park that can take a long time to see due to its comprehensiveness. The longer the better.

Are we talking about the same WDW? Because only 2 of 4 of the parks come even remotely close to being able to be described as 'comprehensive' and that's being downright generous. If by comprehensive you mean 'so crowded it takes multiple visits to see what I could easily see in a day with less crowds' then, yeah, I guess?

And where did I say any park in WDW( or Universal Orlando for that matter) is comprehensive? I never did.

There is only one theme park that I find "comprenesive" and that is Disneyland in Anaheim......... Even by far the best park on the planet, Tokyo Disney Sea, I would not call 'comprehensive', yet; but it's on the brink of deserving that label.

For this theme park discussion to me 'comprehensive' means that the park is so self contained that:

1) No need or desire to park hop
2) There are enough and diversified **QUALITY** attractions and sights to fill an open to close day even with light crowds.

I think that in a way, the more that you go to Disney, the more that you realize that you can spend and/or waste a ton of time at Disney.

When you first start going, you're kind of in shock, and you try to get through it as much as possible: you stick to the major E-ticket attractions, and as long as you get in one lap on all of them you think that you did the park. Once you start going back, and maybe find some visits where everything has short lines, you notice that the park has a ton of things to see at every turn. There are full rides that aren't that advertised and are not E-tickets, there are little impromptu shows, there are zoo/museum like exhibits that you can walk into, some of the food is pretty good, you can take alcohol anywhere in the park, etc. A lot of the extra stuff you don't think about when your time is limited and you just want to get in the major stuff.

And on top of that, you'll usually be fighting with crowds, so one of the reasons its hard to do everything is because of the time you have to spend in line.

Chicken/Egg. Remember why Walt wanted the Florida project.
