My wife is having an operation in June...our trip is planned in July. She will be in the latter part of the 5th week into the 6th week of recovery and is concerned whether she will have the strength for a Disney trip. She is 37.

Has anyone gone to Disney after an operation?

Is a trip like this too much?

I think that this would all depend on a number of factors.
Things to consider: What type of surgery? If it were having something small done, like a tooth pulled, is quite different than having a larger scale surgery, like having a limb removed.
Also, what does her doctor recommend? Another thing is, how fast does she typically recover from illness? Is she generally healthy?
I would not go against my doctor's recommendations on this, as the heat in Orlando that time of year is enough to make healthy people feel terrible, I can't imagine how miserable it would be for someone who is already trying to recover.

My advice would be to take to your doctor about this and take your doctor's advice.

edit: These are just things to think about for yourself. Please don't feel like I am trying to pry into your business by asking what type of surgery, etc. Please don't feel like you need to answer these questions on this board. Good luck!!

Wait and go down later in the year, if that's possible. I personally love October, it's much cooler and the crowds are smaller.

I hope everything goes well with your wife's surgery!

I agree entirely (assuming time permits). F&W, slightly cooler temps, and lower crowds make October great. You can really take a vacation after recovery. Best wishes for your family.

I agree.
I am sure your doctor will agree that the hot florida weather, combined with walking and large crowds will be a little to stressful to your wife's body. Just go later in the year when you can fully enjoy the magic of Disney without having to worry about your wife's well-being!!:)

Good Luck with everything!

Not to be rude, but I would consult the doctor, not someone from a forum about this.

well, because doctors can overkill and people who've experienced something can give you a better idea of what they faced...

I don't know what kind of surgery you wife is having but my DD age 14 had emergency surgery while we were at WDW on April 10th. She has an incision that is about 7 to 8 inches long, from her sternum down to below her belly button. At this time she would not feel up to walking all day in the heat. We went shopping today for about 3 hours and she is tired. It takes a while after major surgery to regain your strength. We are hoping to make an October trip for MNSSHP. Best wishes to your wife for safe surgery and a quick recovery.

It's probably best you postpone. With a six week recovery, for something such as a hysterectomy; she may need every hour of those six weeks. I know at six weeks; I could have well gone to Disney after the second C-section, but not after the first. Everyone's recovery is different. I know someone who's in WDW right now, and she has a cast from heel spur surgery. When I asked her a few nights ago how they were doing; I got the impression, not too good........
