Last year, once I realized I wouldn't be going into the office anytime soon, I decided to dye my hair blue. I wasn't feeling overly gutsy on the first try, so I just used a blue dye kit and didn't strip any color from my hair. I have dark brown hair, so as you could probably imagine, only my untreated gray hairs turned visibly blue...although, I did have a bluish glow when in full sun. After a few weeks, I got more gutsy and decided to try blue highlights. I separated out 8 or so big long chunks of hair and stripped them of all color. I researched a variety of dyes and did an all over application...in hopes that the color stripped and gray hairs would come out blue. The stuff was a MESS!!! ...and it turned out being more green than the Smurf blue it was in the bottle. I decided to try another dye...more of a teal. That dyed true to color, but it really did a number on my scalp. After a couple of weeks, the teal shifted to a variety of shades of green. When it got too ugly looking, I went auburn. I'm going on a year since I've put any dye in my hair and have trimmed off a lot of what was previously dyed. I've got A LOT of gray right now, which has me thinking about conventional vs. unconventional. Part of me is tempted to go with lavender...may even do it tonight.
