:sohappy: we also changed our resort from pofq to the wilderness lodge for late sept.from what ive read the upgrades just happen by luck when you check in.we already have courtyard view so the only upgrade would be to concierge,it probally depends on how booked they are im sure they want to keep the higher rated rooms occupied.35 days and counting i can feel the magic already 09-24-06:sohappy:

I've been upgraded to savannah view from standard(without asking) twice at the AKL... but never to concierge. That would be awesome! But I would never expect it.

I had booked a water view room at The Beach Club and was upgraded to water view concierge when I checked in. I didn't ask for it, the desk clerk just said we had been upgraded while we were checking in. It was just our lucky day I guess.

Once at the Poly, we had a garden/parking lot view, and were upgraded to marina view and closer to the Great Ceremonial House. That was really nice. That was before they offered concierge service, though!

We have been upgraded once because the room we had requested was not available...went from woods view to courtyard view.

I don't believe in asking for an upgrade though, book the best you can afford and enjoy yourselves. If they offer one great, but don't go in there expecting one.

We once got upgraded to concierge at the Boardwalk because we had booked a Boardwalk view and none was available. We've also had a few other upgrades over the years, some out of the blue, and some because our requested view, king bed, etc. was not available.

We got upgraded at All Star Movies. We paid for a regular room, but were upgraded to a preferred building.

We also got upgraded to a park view room at Disneyland's Paradise Pier resort.

Those are the only two upgrades I can think of.

We recently upgraded our reservation from ASM to CR -- we are very excited. We only booked Garden Wing Standard view -- we did put in request for renovated room. We are hoping to get at least the remodelled room. We are not actually sure if we would were to get upgraded whether we would prefer a tower room at CR, or just a better view in the Garden wing since we have a toddler. Our thoughts were the Garden Wing may be closer to things like the pool and playground. Any thoughts?

This happened to us, as well, when we stayed at the Beach Club. Only time we've ever received an upgrade. Of course it was 2002 - one of the worst years the travel industry has endured.

The last upgade we received was in 1999 at WL. I think we booked what was then a lodge view and we were upgraded to a water view room. The resort was not fully booked. We haven't had anymore upgrade offers since then.

We got a nice upgrade last October at the Dolphin, our room was great and our balcony had an excellent view. We were on one of the lower floors but when I was younger I seem to remember sitting out on the balcony there and watching Epcot's night shows. We got the free upgrade because my mother and I are both Starwood Preferred Guests; I'm enrolled automatically since I'm an ABA member but I think you can sign up for free on the website. Hey WDWScottieBoy, are you still going to be there around in mid-October? We're staying at the Dolphin again so I might have to come say hi!

apologies to any smokers, but...

My wife and I were upgraded to a suite at the Coronado Springs. On our 2nd night, we woke up around 5:30am to the strong smell of cigarette smoke. This being a non-smoking room and with no one anywhere near our room outside, we quickly realized someone in the adjoining room had lit up and the smell was wafting under the connecting door. The front desk told us the adjoining room was decidedly not a smoking room either, and they quickly arranged for us to transfer to a lake-view suite. We were transported there via golf cart by 6:00, and eating room service breakfast by 6:30. That was really nice service for something that wasn't even their fault.

We've had two upgrades.

The first one was from a garden room at The Contemporary resort to a Tower room. It was because the Shades of Green people were being relocated to the Contemporary during their refurb.

The 2nd upgrade was from a tower room at The Contemporary to the 12th floor Concierge. We told our travel agent that we wanted Conceirge but we found out when we went to check in that the Travel agent had just booked us for a tower room. My poor wife was so upset and she cried so hard that the Desk clerk felt sorry for us and upgraded us to Concierge. (for a week):)

We also have been upgraded twice. In 1993 we had requested a non-smoking room (specifically due to son's asthma) standard room and when we checked in there were none available. We received a lagoon view and were able to watch the fireworks from our lanai. Then in 1999 we checked in at the Poly and my cousin who had finished the college program 4 months earlier saw a friend of his at the desk and he went to say Hi. The friend asked where we were staying and then did some computer magic and had us moved up to Concierge.

I think we may have gotten two in the past. One was at AKL in Nov. 2003...we had a standard view and were upgraded to a savannah. It was quite exciting for us since we had only ever stayed in the values. On our honeymoon in May we were booked for a garden view at the Poly and ended up with either a MK or lagoon view. I'm not sure which it was, but you could see the castle if you stood in the right spot. It was by far my favorite room ever at WDW. :)

We've gotten upgraded to a tower room from a wing room at the Contemporary at least twice, possibly three times...we never asked for it, we just showed up and were told we got upgraded (the very best kind of upgrade there is!) Love those Disney folks!
