I was wondering when we went in there.. Do they ask you if you want to be "that guy" beforehand?
I love it too. I don't get the anomosity that some people have for the attraction.
My dad wasn't "that guy", but he did get picked to be Sully when they did the retelling of Monsters, Inc. He was great....did a monster face every time the camera was on him. It's one of my favorite memories, especially since he is no longer with us.
Because not everyone will like everything, and not every attraction will be liked by everyone. The random camera elements that make some unwitting guests a part of the show are enjoyed by some, but those same exact elements can make others feel extremely uncomfortable, just like the high speeds and drops of thrill rides can make some people uncomfortable. I know I personally would rather have a cavity filled at the dentist or spend 8 hours renewing my drivers license at the OMV on an insanely busy day than be made the center of attention in public! Same for the "World Showcase Players", although at least if they try to put you in the show you can "Just Say 'NO!'" (the most powerful word in the English language) or simply walk away.
I wonder if anyone who ever got picked on to be "that guy" ever simply walked out after the first time, which would mess up the running gag!
(I am not attempting to bash this attraction or start an argument about it's merits, I was just explaining why not everyone likes it with a specific example)
