Sitting here watching a Disney show on TLC and just saw a clip of Walt Disney discussing the Florida Project. He referred to EPCOT as the Experimental Prototype CITY of Tomorrow. All these years I have been convinced it was the Experimental Prototype COMMUNITY of Tomorrow. Were these two terms used interchangeably or was City just dropped or what?

Wow, thanks for that. Yep, in the transcript it was city and community in the same paragraph. Learn something new every day. Seeing Walt himself saying "City," I was surprised.

I've always heard "community!" I've never heard "city" except in videos when they discussed how it was actually going to be a city..

If you watch the EPCOT film, there is a moment where Walt says "city" but then shortly thereafter repeats the name and places a strong emphasis on "community." That is the only time "city" was used instead of "community" and the films makes it clear that it was an error. Walt was nearing the end of his life and was probably not up for multiple takes.

Right. Walt often got hung up on words, and did not like doing live broadcasts because of this. Marty wrote the script for the "Epcot" show, but that doesn't mean Walt was able to stick to it.

Besides, the vision and concept was far more important to Walt than the acronym.

In Discovery Day (Epcot Cast Member park orientation) they told us it was community, but like you've all said, Walt used both.

From the clip, he used it once. Within a couple of seconds he said "community" with a voice infraction that seemed to say, this is the right way, I was incorrect the first time and this is the correction.

As usual, a small point is once again being picked clean of all reality for some unknown point to prove. A city is a community as long as people reside in it and that was the intent of EPCOT.

That is him referring to the city, which it was, not spelling out the meaning of the acronym.
