HauntedPirate's Trip Report - 5/4 - 5/11, Part II

Background:
Our party of 12 stayed at Pop Century. 50's "C" building, lake view after they didn't honor our 70's request, and we needed 2 connecting rooms (2 electric wheelchair-bound guests, one with medical needs).

Thoughts and commentary:

Mickey's Backyard BBQ is too loud and too hectic for parties with small children. In fact, other than Chef Mickey's and the Cape May Cafe, I'm beginning to sour on character buffet's. They are getting so rushed - sit down, characters come thru right away, pictures, autographs.... it's just nuts to try and have an enjoyable meal.

The Mother's Day brunch was elegant and very nice.

Riding in the front of the monorail with my 3-year old son is something I'll never forget. :D

'Wishes' is incredible!!!

Fantasmic! needs some serious rehab. The show, for the most part now, is boring. It seems to be 5 minutes of live action, and 15 minutes of looking at animation being displayed on the water screens. The Pocahontas segment doesn't fit at all.

WDW should look at improving placement of things like carts and character meet'n'greet locations so that you aren't choking off main passageways.

The Fountain of Nations broke down on Saturday, May 8, and wasn't working at all on May 10. :(

Please fix Test Track!!! I missed Illuminations because it broke down at 8:50pm!

Bring back the Dreamfinder. The whole "Imagination Institute" idea seems to be stuffy and formulaic. And get rid of the new HISTA pre-show. It stinks!

I feel that there needs to be more rides at MGM and AK. As it stands, there are 5 "rides" at MGM - RnR, ToT, Backlot Tour, GMR, and Star Tours. And give people a reason to go to AK. Everest is a start, but there has to be a way to keep people interested in the park after 5pm, and it shouldn't have to involve seeing animals. With the park only being open 8 hours per day, the lines for EE, if it's as incredible as it seems to be shaping up to be, are going to be insane.

The on-ride photo for Buzz Lightyear is distracting.

The video screen in Splash Mountain near the end of the ride, showing samples of the on-ride photos, is utterly tasteless. Get rid of that abomination NOW, it has no business being inside the ride. And, the painting of Splash Mountain looks fabulous! You could see, from BTTR, what still needed painting, but it really looks good. And, I SAW THE HOPPING BRER RABBIT!!! It worked on May 6, but I only saw it once, then it was 'broken' again. The water shooting over your head wasn't working, either.

I was at MK opening for the first time in at least 15 years. I nearly cried hearing the opening announcement. Or maybe it was the fact that I was at the most magical place in the world, where I proposed to my wife, who couldn't help but notice the ear-to-ear smile on my face!!! :D

Enjoyed your report!

I must say though you are the first person I've ever heard comment that Fantasmic is boring. I thought I was the only one who felt this way, particularly since it seems to always get glowing reviews on these boards. I agree there's too much time devoted to the images being displayed on the water screens.

Ah well, it's still worth going to, but it's definately not in the same league as Illuminations or Wishes.

I was glad to read your last paragraph. I was beginning to think you did not have a good trip!
