no S-word.

I’m almost certain that I heard the “S” word. I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure although like I said before, I can’t remember exactly where….

In any event, at least a few uses of the “H” word were as describing the place (as it is used in the Christian Bible) so they may get a bit of a slide on that but I think some people are missing the point on the whole PG thing. It isn’t that it is a PG rated movie with this language. It is a DISNEY FAMILY movie with this language. How would the same people who think it is ok here feel about it also being in the movies “Atlantis” or “Treasure Planet” which were also rated PG and marketed by Disney to the same audience?

Yes, kids have heard it before. No, hearing it in this movie will probably not lead them down a path of crime and drug abuse ending in an abrupt and bloody shootout in a bank lobby on their 18th birthday but there was no reason that most of this language even needed to be in the movie. I just find it sort of odd that this comes through with little fanfare when just a few years ago there was a big debate about a scandalous scene in Tarzan where the hero was holding (but not drinking) a glass of wine for about a minute and a half.

Even if I totally imagined the “S” word which is possible since I can’t remember where in the movie I think I heard it the “A” word was there and wasn’t even needed.

Actually, those sound like PG words to me....

Remember Roger Rabbit?

Yes, I remember Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I also remember who released it and it wasn’t Disney Studios.

I get your point that aspects of the movie and some of the characters from it have been used in Disney theme parks as well as for merchandise in Disney parks but so have aspects of Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, the original Star Wars movies and a handful of others that were not released by Disney Studios.

Crap was definitely used, but am I the only one not thinking that's a big deal? :lookaroun I say that in front of my kids quite often.

Damn, yes, and hell, obviously, and a** I remember too... the termites, and then when Eddie's life was being threatened, he said "Go ahead and kill me, but I'll be whippin your a** for all eternity" (something like that)

I stand by my review in another thread. Good movie. :) Not the greatest movie of all history that will change your life upon viewing, but good. I think too much was expected of it. I kept my expectations low, and was not disappointed.

True, very true, they released Roger under the Touchstone name. But the thing is, throughout that whole movie you see the Disney characters everywhere! Mickey, Minnie, Pinnoccio, Dumbo, Goofy, Donald, and all the otehr Disney trademarks are all in this movie that uses a whole mess of innuendo and mild language.

Though I must wonder....why didn't they release it under a different name, like Touchstone? Odd... Maybe they are slipping a bit....?

Well, if you mean the Haunted Mansion it naturally made sense to put it under the Disney Studios name since the strongest selling point of the movie was the Disney attraction that it was related to.

The thing is, if this had happened in Cat in the Hat you wouldn’t have heard a peep from me. I’d have just rolled my eyes and thought “not really a kids movie” and that would have been that but coming from Disney where they typically scrutinize over little details like this, I’m just very surprised and disappointed that they let that through – especially when (unlike a movie such as Bad Santa where it could be considered to go toward the degenerate nature of the character) there was nothing gained in the movie by the inclusion..

. “Crap” to me while not a great word is a decent substitute for stronger language. As a matter of fact, it didn’t even strike me at the time as being serious enough to take note of because I don’t actually remember hearing it anywhere in the movie.

Grizzly, as an adult and a fan of Disney, I wouldn’t let the few words that spill out stop me from seeing this movie. Personally I didn’t care for it for a variety of reasons but that is my opinion and there are others on here who liked it. As far as a foul mouthed dialog goes, this move is pretty low on the meter for your typical modern fare. It is just that the fact that there is anything at all in it makes it seem strong to me for a Disney movie.

Well I had must have missed him where was the Caretaker & dog ghost? If it was in the Cemetary did not notice it because that scene went to quick, they should have spent a little bit longer on that scene.

...yes they did

...But only at the VERY end of the film. In fact, the castle logo was taken off all newly-made movie posters after the PG-13 rating was applied. The movie started without the traditional castle logo as all Walt Disney Picture movies do, rather it just kind of started with the title of the movie. I found it odd since almost all movies start with the studio's logo. If you've seen HM you know what I mean. The Walt Disney logo is first, than the name of the movie. With Pirates, no such logo was seen, which I can only presume was the result of the PG-13 rating.

It will be interesting to see if they change their minds with the video and DVD. Afterall, they put Walt Disney Pictures in bright yellow across the top of the video cover, which is basically the same as the movie poster, but with the poster, no such blatant reference was made. I think they should make it more known that WDP made it. It is one of the best movies ever made and people loved it, there is no reason to be "ashamed" of it just because it got the PG-13 rating. Without the stuff that made it PG-13, Pirates probably wouldn't have been the great movie it was.

By the way, Pirates comes out tomorrow!! Go get it everyone! :sohappy: :sohappy:

I'll be definitely picking up my copy of PotC tomorrow! :sohappy:

Anyways, crap, hell, damn, and a** were used. I am 100% sure that the s-word was not used. You must take in fact that words used in the movie were not that bad. Take a look at Back To The Future for example. All these, and the s-word (but it was 1989). It came with a PG rating, as well as its two sequels. I do know of many, many more PG movies with the language in HM used. I'm pretty sure the Dr. Dolittle movies, both PG and with Eddie Murphy, used this sort of language too. I do agree that most of it did not need to be used in the movie.

But grizzlyhall, you've gotta see HM! It was a good movie. Try it at least once.:)

wait til dvd top see it. 5.75 for a movie of this calibur isn't worth it.

on second thought, if you want to go spot the haunted mansion references only and not care for: plot, acting, characterization an only for the mucis, set, SFX (which was a BIG waste of money and effort in my opinoin) then yeah go see this movie in the theatre. but if that's the only reasons: wait and rent it.

I LOVED the attraction references! There are so many. . . look out! :D :D

DISCLAIMER:

This did not deserve to be rated PG. (More like...switch POTC and HM if you had the choice!)

Two uses of the word @$$ - "That is one big-____ terminte!" and used once later in the show.

Several curses: "The hell I won't!" and "Oh my God."

References to "knockers". . .

The use of "Damn you all" wasn't as bad as a straight-out curse.

Then rap music at the end, plus the above, did not due justice to the attraction.

Nonetheless, the film was entertaining.

yeah it was entertaining. about as entertaining as my US History class. fell asleep in that many times. i'm sorry but Haunted mansion was a joke. The jokes were callable. i'm sitting there witht he dumb Latin joke and when she says "it's latin" i muttered "dead language..ha ha...":brick: I have been to several movies in my 19 years of living and only once did i come out of a movie feeling as if i were cheated out of money, time and entertainment: this one. it was unfunny, the acting was VERY poor. the girl acted as if 90% of the movie was as boring as if she were forced to watch the movie. ride references? pfft...i'll take the video game's reference over the movies any given day. SFX were a waste (see where the money went..let's pay rick baker for 2 minutes of film!! yeah! that's a good idea)

For further note: HM has dropped out of the Top 10, hell the top 12 movies this week. it's a bomb. those who haven't seen it, wait til next week when it's at $1.50 movies or april when it's on DVD.

Just saw it yesterday. I thought, overall, it was wonderful and fun for kids.

I loved the multiple ride references.

I had two problems, though:

1. I agree with Mr. Promey that the language was sometimes unncessary and somewhat surprising (although "PG" is not "G," and therefore gives some warning).

[BTW, Griz, "damn you all" is the definition of cursing. Which is sort of interesting, because the original idea of "cursing" (i.e., condemning something, especially to hell or purgatory, such as for evil spirits) had a lot to do with evil and purgatory or hell... things that are pretty much a given in "haunted" stories!]

2. The line at the end, where the lady ghost (carrying her suitcase to go to heaven) is told, "you can't take it with you," and she replies, "The hell I can't" and marches off to heaven. I know that this is supposed to be light-hearted fun, but I think they have forgotten that this can be seen as mocking God. It just struck me as very wrong. It just crossed an unintended line, but an important one nonetheless, I think.

So, overall I really liked the movie. It just needed to be a good, clean kids' film and leave out the trash and racy things (including the Nelly video associated with it, also).
