How did you enjoy it? I loved it! It was really good. Eddie Murphy did a great job, it was his best movie since Nutty Professor 2. The two kids also did an excellent job, and so did the man who played Ramsley. I went to the first showing of the day, at 10 AM, at our local Muvico. Our local paper though gave it a C, which I think it didn't deserve. People will not be disappointed, I can say that right now.

10 out of 10!:D :sohappy:

10 outa 10? pfft i wish. 2 out of 10. the only good scenes: the busts intereupting eddie and the intial credits.

half a point each.

this was the first movie that was actually putting me to sleep. no action or lack there of. comedy was not funny at all except for the bust scene. cut the song short, the GGG song of course. the ghosts could have been better, PoTC skeleton's were better than this. there were some scenes from the ride but only a handful (corridor of doors, graveyard and the ballroom-in part). the ending was ridiculous. at least two scenes left me asking "ok, what happened?" that ebing the escape from the zombies and leota ROLLING in front of the house. very very very bad movie.

I haven’t seen Eddie do so well in a roll since… Pluto Nash (and he actually sued in an attempt to keep that movie which sat on the shelf for about a year after completion from ever being released)

One of the best parts of the whole movie came after all the closing credits after everyone else had left the theater (including the cleaning crew)

Yeah, terrible disappointment after PotC. The most enjoyment I had out of it was spotting little things from the ride. Otherwise, not worth it. Save it for renting.

Let's not forget "Harlem Nights". He produced, directed, starred and bombed in that one too! Eddie has to do a few more films and then perhaps he will get an award for the worst actor ever to show up on the big screen. The competition is stiff but I feel confident he will beat out all his rivals! His work in The Haunted Mansion will no doubt help his chances.

The movie was not half bad, not at all near POTC but decent I give 4 out of 10.
Wasn't Don Knotts to be in the HM movie as the caretaker, there was no caretaker at all in the movie unless I missed it.

From what I understand, he had to back out at the last minute so the scene that was to have him in it (it was just a cameo) was cut from filming.

Doing this they could start from scratch and make a complete CGI version of the Caretaker making it as close to the attraction as the real thing :)

It sucks it cost so much to make ;)

Sony/Imageworks isnt a cheap company to use for effects work... (ILM being the most expensive..and the one who did POTC)

You guys have to realize that this is a KIDS movie..they really cant do much with it. POTC as much as youd like to deny it..was for ADULTS. 90% of that movie goes WAY over kids heads. HM is a good family film....not oscar worthy by far..but it'll make its money back.

One would sort of have to wonder about that based on some of the language that spills out of the stars mouth on screen… Were this an adult move, I wouldn’t think much of it but since it does seem to be something marketed directly to kids and being from Disney, this sort of surprised me.

I hope the do make their money back on it and I suspect they will from brand recognition and marketing if nothing else but I think there was a lot wrong with this movie that can’t be blamed on the fact that it is for kids. A movie for kids can still have decent dialog and a good pace, all of which I think this movie was lacking. Saying that it was a movie for kids sounds more like an excuse to not bother with these details rather than a reason for why they couldn’t have been better incorporated.

I may get pelted for this one but I think Country Bears (aside from the obvious effects budget difference) might have actually been a better movie. I’m usually pretty optimistic when it comes to Disney’s project siding with a bit of admitted prejudice in their favor but to me, this move just missed the mark on several levels.

I wasn't paying much attention to cursing, but I think I heard one "crap".

If these four times are all the cursing that is done, I find it to put much blame on the film for using this type of language. I mean it's not an S or F word.

Well, I recall the “A” word being used in a scene were a door was swelling the phrase was “big a$$ termites” and I remember the “S” word although off the top of my head, I don’t recall where exactly in the movie it was now but I’m pretty sure it also came from Mr. Murphy… He l l was also used a few times as a curse word as well as to describe a place.

Call me crazy but even if it were just the word "a$$" being used, it seemes mighty out of place in a DISNEY move that was marketed directly to kids. Especially since the inclusion of the word in that particular scene was totally pointless. He could have said the exact same thing without loosing any of the meaning without the inclusion.. and if you check the MPAA you’ll see that language was at least in part, how it got the PG raiting: “MPAA Rating
PG - for frightening images, thematic elements and language”

Don’t get me wrong, I am not offended by this kind of language but I don’t think parents should be expecting it in what is possibly the most trusted name in *family* entertainment.

I'm not going to the movie. I don't like that language in a PG film and I don't want Tilly in Leota's ball.

Boy, Disney is on my no-no list tonight. (See Roy threads in GD/News)

Actually, those sound like PG words to me....

Remember Roger Rabbit?

I personally don't think that this kind of language is going to affect young ones too much. I really don't understand those kinds of restrictions sometimes. I mean, ok, the f and s words (I dont remember any "s" word in the movie, by the way) are a no-no, and overuse of any kind of bad language is just rude, but for how it was used in the movie, there isn't anything new to a PG movie, and nothing that I personally think is going to cause kids to go around swearing anymore than they already do :)
