Of course since it is Halloween, it is natural for the organist at the ball park to play some spooky tunes tonight between hits, and he played the opening to the Haunted Mansion theme a little while ago. It was spot on, and very fun to here. I was wanting to hear Paul Frees start to talk before he stopped, "When hinges creek in doors chambers...."

The organ theme is officially entitled Otherworldly Concerto. It's found on the Haunted Mansion CD. In the attraction, a portion is played in the foyer. Another portion in the banquet scene. There's a middle section not anywhere in the ride which is neat. Here's the entire theme.

Was watching the game last night and immediately heard it. I love the new organist at Dodger Stadium, though Nancy B Heffley was awesome, too. The current organist plays a lot of rock and video game tunes and last night he was playing Nightmare Before Christmas, Thriller, Haunted Mansion and John Carpenter's Halloween theme!

By the way - GO DODGERS!!!!

Would love to see video of those.

Isn't this just the chord progression from "Grim Grinning Ghosts"? It's not substantially different from that at least...

Turned into an actual organ concerto piece. It's quite good. I can envision the organist playing it now. I work video at my church regularly so turn the camera on the organist to view him from the side. It's a full exercise of playing not just with the hands but with the feet on foot petals.

While we're on the subject of the concerto as a whole, here's some deep cut trivia. "Otherworldly Concerto" was done up by Gaylord Carter, a famed silent film organist who among countless films, did the track for Steamboat Bill Jr. starring Buster Keaton, which as you may be able to tell from the name, inspired Steamboat Willie. Tada!

Here's the middle segment I was referring to at 2:39.

I freaked out when I heard him playing the organ foyer music for Grim Grinning Ghosts. How many people do you think recognized it? Being relatively close to Disneyland, I'm sure there were some HM fans in the crowd.

The organist for the Dodgers is awesome. He plays the best tunes - during the World Series alone I heard Beck's "Where It's At," The Doors' "Light My Fire," Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," themes from Star Wars, and more. Great stuff. Great World Series too!

The only bad thing about this World Series was that it had to end. Heard a bit of the Game of Thrones theme last night... very fun.

Greetings from a fellow church video guy! I usually am the voice on comms, directing the shoots, but I also run camera at special events. We had a special evening service a while back with just Hymnal songs, and brought in an organ and very talented organist (instead of our usual orchestra / praise band). Unfortunately, the stage was not set up with good angles for the cameras, and a choir standing in front, so we could not show that type of combo shot (feet and hands). I wish we would have planned ahead and had a hand-held behind the choir. I am amazed at how all hands and feet are working together to produce the music. I'm no where that coordinated... that's why I'm on the video team ;)

Same here. No knowledge of music at all. The sound booth and video camera are located in the "choir loft" (aka "gallery" aka "balcony"). The booth is located to the far left near the balcony edge. The organ console is in the middle facing the choir. So the tripod camera either faces out into the congregation ("nave") or I can turn it 90 degrees to the right for a side profile of the organist. As there is a prelude and postlude at almost every service, the camera is on the organist doing his thing playing the keyboard and pushing the foot petals. On the major pieces, it's a sight to behold!

This photo gives you a good idea of the layout. The tripod camera and sound board are just out of frame on the left. The organist is on the left and the choir on the right. This was at an evening service obviously.
