Haunted Mansion Holiday at Walt Disney World

As someone who's permanently stuck in FLA, it's sad I'll never see this - but that's what YouTube is for! (And I respect that each park worldwide are not clones of each other. WDW has, probably, more exclusive attractions than any other disney park) I'm always blown away by the level of detail for this project. Overlay seems like such a ill-fitting word for this. More than an overlay, less than a retrofit.

It's not going to happen in WDW. Mainly because it gets the most first time visitors from around the world and it would take way too much downtime to put in the overlay.

Interesting - as someone who's only been to WDW, I'd think if it were supposed to be a park for first time visitors, they'd never have canned Snow White's Scary Adventures and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

Let's not go there.

California native here. Only been to Disneyland.

I'll be honest, I've been several times to Disneyland during the NMBC overlay and it isn't really that special, if it is at all. It's not even that I'm sick of it or anything. It's just that when I go to DL HM I'm there for HM, not NMBC, and I say that as someone who got a NMBC wallet in a New Orleans Square shop and has used it for almost a decade. If you never see it in person you're not missing much.

Edit: The Sally being added to DL HM for NMBC rumor turned out to be true, btw. She's an animatronic that blinks and has some leg movement.

I was able to experience, for the first time, the Haunted Mansion Holiday last year at DL and I thought it was pretty cool, I wouldn't mind seeing something like that happen at Walt Disney World. I did think the holiday overlay of small world was better but I enjoyed both. For a semi-regular visitor it was nice to have something new to see. Side note: My husband just tolerates small world, but the first time we rode that with the holiday overlay the first thing he said upon getting off the ride was "We have to go on that again."

^^^^ This

I would add that most guests at DL tend to be pass holders so rides like HM and SM get overlays to keep their interest.

A positive side effect I'd say. Not just for holiday overlays, but extended refurbishments for rides in general.

Interestingly, year after year, the line for Haunted Mansion multiplies ten fold for the holiday version even when annual passes are blocked out.

From where did the rumors originate?
I can't remember exactly where, but I swear I read it somewhere around this time last year. I tried to look it up a couple weeks ago and got nothing so it must have been false. Also, wasn't it originally supposed to come to Walt Disney World, but they shelved the idea and took the NMBC decorations and animatronics to Tokyo?

Yes, and there are a large number of people that have been able to acquire a taste for drinking Scotch too. That doesn't make it good. I have seen the overlay once and that was once to many as far as I'm concerned. There are not to many things that they can change that bother me much. I just try and enjoy what there is, however, to basically graffitify a classic such as Haunted Mansion should come with a death sentence. Yes, I'm aware of the irony in that statement!

There is a vacuum in space because the overlay sucks so much. Stay in California where the local groups can go in and worship it while holding hands and singing scary songs together... keep it out of Florida.

What?! Who in the world "worships" it?

Your opinion is valid as the next. But an overlay that sucks so much that, gasp, creates a space vaccum would not have lasted this long.

I look forward to it every year. By December , I look forward for the original to come back. Walt Disney World will always be there if I want to go on the "normal" mansion during the holidays.

It's not coming and I hope it never does. If they are going to do anything to the mansion at Christmas then I rather they put up a few creepy Christmas decorations around the mansion, similar to how you decorate the inside of your home at Christmas eg Christmas tree in the ball room scene, stockings hung from fireplaces, stuff like that and it shouldn't pull focus either, should be subtle. The bonus of this is that it could be put up over night. Nice and simple.

That's all wdw would probably be willing to spend on an overlay. So that would be convenient for them. Jingle Cruise at MK takes the less is more approach a little too extreme.

This! LOL Don't touch my Mansion with an overlay. And this is coming from someone who actually likes NBC but doesn't want the overlay.
