Any word of when this film is to come out?

Unknown. The last official word on it was in August '11, in which a rep for Del Toro claimed that the script was finished.

The maquette popped up on the internet back in March of this year.

Del Toro has clammed up about it nowadays...he's doing Pacific Rim right now and his next big project is going to be a stop-motion Pinocchio. Haunted Mansion won't be at least until 2015, possibly later.

That is, if Disney doesn't decide to shelve it permanently after the disappointing returns of Tron Legacy and John Carter.

Thanks for showing the comparison. I defintely see similarities and differences but at least I feel like I'm not crazy anymore when Ezra seemed to remind me of the Hatbox ghost. I never thought of it before the refurb but only noticed it when I saw the "new Ezra".

I think the general decay in the face and having one eye slightly winking and the other wide it just triggered a memory of seeing photos of the Hatbox ghost. I kind of like that they used the mold for this character, whether it be a frugal decision or an homage. Though I would love to see the Hatbox ghost return!

Well lets hope not! I love his movies and would love to see his interpretation of the Haunted Masion especially after that pathetic version made with Eddie Murphy.
