Haunted Mansion Attic Change

It's been 10 years now since the attic has been changed and I feel like it really deserves another update to bring it back to it's true creepiness. Constance is boring and really annoying with her chatter. The effect looks fake and the attic is too bright now which allows you to see things you shouldn't. Also having something generally in your face creepy with a couple jump scares compared to an implied murderer and cheap effects is a lot more effective. My idea for a new attic would be to ditch the Constance stuff, adjust the lighting to be more creepy and luminescent and add some newly updated creepy bride and pop up ghost animatronics. The newer animatronics look incredibly realistic compared to a cheap projection on a mannequin. Maybe even add the bats back too. Check out the vid below to enjoy the creepiness of the old attic :)

You have to remember the ride isn't really supposed to be scary.... besides it could be worse they could have done some horrible Nightmare Before Christmas overlay on it like they do in DL every fall.

I personally feel the current attic scene is an improvement over the previous attic scene with zombies on a stick. However, I would prefer the hitchhiking ghost effect at the end of the ride revert back to its original state. The current projection effect is just not as realistic looking as the animatronics behind the clear glass (mirror). The old effect looked very realistic as if the ghost really were following me home. Not so much anymore. All in my humble opinion of course.

No. Just no. This attraction is intended for all ages. Increasing the scare factor might be appropriate for Universal, but not for Disney. Here's what the WDW site describes:
Creepy Fun for Little Ones
The Haunted Mansion contains some mildly frightening subject matter. But there is no gore, the ghostly residents are friendly and the experience is appropriate for all ages.

Now, Now... Remember what happens if it gets too scary or too serious. We will have traumatized kids, pants wetting parents and endless complaints about how Disney ruined their kids lives. Leave the scary stuff to Universal and other parks... they can get away with giving their guests big boy rides.

Yep... when my kids were really young we only did Disney... Now that they are older Universal is part of the Orlando trips. We know what we are getting at both parks, Disney provides one type of entertainment and Universal provides the another.... Frankly I wish Universal would eliminate their attempt at coddling ride like the ones found in the Dr. Suess area and keep Universal more thrilling and less kiddie... But sense Universal and Disney are in cahoots I don't think that will happen.

The ghostly residents are friendly? You mean the one constantly threatening you to remain as a ghost yourself, or the ax murderer in the attic?

And WRT: "Don't touch my Haunted Mansion!" Ummmm... you know they touch it constantly, right? The new queue? The new ghosts in the mirror SFX? The various iterations of the attic scene?

Are the people who clamor for the addition of the Hat Box Ghost and the ones who clamor for don't change anything the same group of people? If not, can we get them all in one room for a battle royale?

The overlay is great :) When I see it, it gets the largest lines I see of either Mansion in the US- many times this line is the longest in the park. I think they do a great job with it. I'm glad there are changes to rides from time to time.

To me some of the overlays are well done but there are certain parts where it doesn't look like they really thought out what they were doing that well and just threw on some florescent painted props for the sake of doing it. I do enjoy the ginger bread smell when you pass through the dining hall.

I can see what you're getting at...the current projected talking face is a little too much cheese...the fact that there's no dialogue in the old rendtion leave a litte more to the imagination and there is more creepy that comes with that. Additionally, I'm probably in the minority, but I can see where not having the little skeleton hands on the doors looks better and less cheesy as well. The notion that you DON'T know what's behind those doors trying to get out works better...

I'd rather have that wedding dress in the attic moving with no face or arms or anything at all...kinda like the "ghost dress" in the second PoTC movie... to me, the eeriness of a moving or floating dress with no owner would be far better than that projected hunk of crap we have now...

Pretty much anything would be better than the lame talking mannequin they have in there now. Embarrassing would be an understatement.

As a frequent Disneyland-er I was excited for the prospect of a Nightmare Before Christmas overlay on my favorite attraction...

And then I went on it. You're right, they just shoved and pasted it all on there for the sake of doing so. There is NO storyline and its very forced. I believe its just a flashy shiny object to get people off of the crowded walkways around the holidays and it has absolutely no business being in that classic attraction. Im coming back to Disney World in September and am SO excited that there is no Overlay there.

When I worked at MK I remember asking why they don't do the overlay and simply put, it would be too much time for the attraction to be down before and after the holidays. They don't want to disappoint guests, I get that and I am so grateful.

minor rant over :)

So why can't Disney be a kid park and a big kid park together? Must "every" ride be tame for the sake of kids? Although I love both Space and Thunder mountains, we can all agree they are tamed way down. Look at the launch sequence of the other Space Mountains. Way better. MK needs some better thrill rides desperately. Let hope the Tron light Cycle is a true rumor and it is not watered down at all.

I wouldn't disagree with changing it, however I'd be opposed to making it scarier. We have to drag my son onto it every time even though we've referred to it as the "Silly Spooks". He always done fine once he's on it, but then remembers it to be scarier than it really is. So no...please don't make it scarier.
