"Haunted" by MAGIC JOURNEYS

I think I am haunted by an attraction!

I experienced the show MAGIC JOURNEYS only once, in 1990, when it was presented at the 3D theater in Fantasyland (now PhilharMagic, I believe). I recall finding the show rather tedious and bland, yet something about it has haunted me for almost 15 years.

Is it the creepy theme song? It's supposed to be uplifting (listen to the lyrics), yet it's sung in a rather glum, morose key. I asked my sister, who was 9 at the time, if she remembered that show, and amazingly, she was able to hum the tune as clearly as I could -- even though we had only seen the show once!

Or maybe it's the scary wicked witch that appears in the movie. I think she reaches her fingers into the audience at one point -- or am I confusing her with the bad guy in CAPTAIN EO?

Whatever it is, that show holds a strange place in my memory -- neither happy nor sad. It's just there, like a splinter in my mind (in the words of Morpheus :D )

Anybody else haunted by this or any other defunct attraction?

You are not the only one. That witch still scares me to this day. That film might have been the scariest thing ever WDW. :lookaroun

Yes.. the witch is in Magic Journeys. My family also remembered the song much more than the content of the video. I had seen it a couple of times as a young kid while it was in EPCOT. Years had gone by and then I saw it again when they used it as a pre-show at MK. It freaked me out to see it again and contrast my early memories of it against what it actual contents were. Definitely an odd 3d movie ;).

I can't find any pictures of it, but the music is still available (look for MAGIc JOURNEYS on Kazaa or off #Disney Central).

Here's one site's description of the movie:

"Magic Journeys" -- An impressionistic view of a child's imagination, it was first shown at Journey into Imagination presented by Kodak at Epcot in October 1982. Using all the techniques of movie-making, the dream-like journey featured dimensional images that reached out to the audience. The film was moved to Fantasyland Theater in Magic Kingdom from December 1987 until December 1993.

Hey marni1971 great screen caps. Did those come from a video file on your computer? I don't remember seeing any videos of MJ on the #disney-central page, but I'd love to see a video of it. Even if it was in it's double image glory.

dxwwf3;

Thanks. Capped off my 1990 home video - I`ve got about 75% of the film (batteries ran out or something... funny how I never worried at the time. 14 years later and ARGH!!)

I`m just getting into uploading videos - my first lot are 1990 EPCOT attractions, edited from multi angles and with source audio, and they are going on this site (WDWMagic) - when I get them finished (nearly there!) Then I do want to look into uploading to Disney Central (did BBC Outrageous Fortunes - my first and only effort).

Ah!!! My eyes!! Thanks, but no thanks, Marni, for that visit from the past. Guess I'll be haunted for another 14 years...

Unfortunately ( or I guess in this case fortunately??:lol: ) I never saw it, my first trip was after the Lion King attraction was put in place. I do have a defunct attraction that haunts me though...I believe it was Horizons or World of Motion...but at the end you could make a choice of the ending you wanted to see. It was living in space, under the ocean, and something else. It was majoity rules and a screen appeared in front of your cab and played a movie. All the times I was there and I never got to see the one I picked:(

It was Horizons. There was also a rumor floating around about how they measured the votes put in at the end to determine what should replace it or perhaps what kind of new attraction they should put in the park.

Thats so funny..I was talking with my friend about a month ago in Epcot about how certain attractions that I haven't done since a child "haunt me"...these are Horizons and 20K (maybe its because I only vaguely remember parts of them)..but I remember some parts so clearly even though I was only like 7 when I last rode them.
