Has your next trip just seemed unreachable??

Hey EaglesFan... you're right, I totally started getting people off topic! Sorry about that :(

Just for the record though, I'm totally on your side! Just from reading the trip reports on this site (yours included) I know many families have a truly magical time at Disney with infants/toddlers. And believe me, I will do my best to try and get my husband to realize that! :animwink:

No worries at all DisneyDremer, i hope you and your husband have a great time in whatever you choose to do, i'm sure it will be the right choice for your family.

Just one additional comment (nothing like getting off topic in my own thread lol!) The whole "they will never remember it" argument gets me started every time. If they will never remember it, then why do anything with your child??? "Don't take your 2 year old to Disney on Ice, they won't remember it anyway, don't take them pumpkin picking now that it's Halloween, they won't remember it anyway" Seriously, people who think that way are better off staying in the house and doing nothing...that's sad. It's all about creating memories with your child, they are only that young once. Sure, going to Disney was about my wife and I just as much as it was for our daughter. If we waited until our daughter was old enough to remember ANYTHING, we'd lead pretty boring lives.

Those miserable kids that some other posters want to talk about making an "Album" of... that's because their parents push them to the brink and have no clue when to stop... We knew we should take breaks in the afternoon and take naps... as a result, our 15 month old made it till 11 pm one night, no meltdowns.

I totally agree with that statement, sadly, too many people do this and I just find it ironic walking around the "Happy Place" and seeing miserable children.
How good of a memory can it be to look at a pic of Belle and a crying "Sally"?

If everybody followed your lead with naps and breaks, it truly would be a Happy Place!:)

I just think a first trip to a place such as Disney should be remembered by the child more than the parents.
Sorry to get the thread off track a bit.;)

No reason to be sorry, i appreciate you opinion! And you are right, everyone should take time out in the day to refresh and re group. Our baby did awesome and i would have stayed 7 more days with her, that's how well it went....and yes, i appreciate the fact that you think the trip should be more remembered by the child... and it will be, when we take ours back at age 5 ;)

Back on topic though, thanks everyone for your responses... i think i have an idea on how to pass this long wait till our next trip, and glad to see some of you are in the same boat as me, the waiting game! This forum will certainly help me get my fix.

This certainly isn't the direction i wanted to take the thread by any means... so i'll leave it at this. I've said this numerous times before, but it's up to the type of child you have, and up to the adults to determine what kind of vacation it will be. To each his own, so i don't blame you one bit for thinking 5-6 is the ideal age... everyone is different and i respect any person who thinks that way. We took a 15 month old and had the time of our lives. You are 100000% correct in that she will not remember the trip anyways, but we will, and we have beautiful pictures and video to prove it (see my trip report for the evidence if you'd like) But hear this...... I live near the Jersey shore and i could have plunked down $1500 for one week in a shore house, plus spending money, plus food and groceries, plus entertainment. Or i can spend less than that and go to Disney World, which we just did.

So no, her husband is not "right". EVERYONE is right because it's a subjective thing, it's opinion, and it's to each his own
I had to smile when I read your comment about spending so much money for a shore house, my DH and I just had that conversation a few weeks ago. Actually, our conversation started when someone asked him about Disney and then when he told them how many times he's been(2 dz plus) the person said " I don't understand why you would want to waste so much money on the same vacation every year, why don't you go someplace other than Disney for a change". We wondered why no one ever says that to people who rent a house down the shore every single summer for years and years. We spend pretty much the same amount of money to go to Disney for a week that others spend for a week down the shore, I would rather spend my money in Disney.

Now for the orginial question: For the past 12 years we have gone to Disney just about every year but, our last trip was Jan 2008. We currently have a trip planned for Feb. but we are not 100% sure we are going. DH's job has been very slow for the past year (he works in the auto industry) and we are still leary about spending the money for the trip. I spend alot of time on this board and another (reading trip reports etc) to help with my Disney withdrawl. I used to watch the planning DVD's but that only makes me want to go more. I also read some of the old Birnbaum and unofficial guide books.

Thanks so much for your response mousebymarriage. Believe me, i did the research online and called realty companies... I priced out many places in Ocean City, Wildwood, and LBI. To spend one week renting a shore house (not even on the beach, this would be 10 blocks or more from the beach) would be anywere from the low end of $800, to upwards of $1700, depending where it's located. You factor in a weeks worth of food for 3, beach tags, entertainment, and gifts, you are cracking the $2k mark for sure. Well i spent around that much for our Disney vacation, meal plan was free, much of the spending money was disney $ we got as gifts. Oh and by the way, she would not have "remembered" the trip to the shore either as some like to argue. Proof is in the pudding.

Yeah i think i'll start buying the new editions of Birnbaum's just to pass the time, it's a nice read and gets me that Disney feel. It will be a long 3 years for sure.

I totally feel your pain! My husband and I just got back from a glorious 10 day stay and I have no clue when we will ever be able to go back. We just bought a house a few months ago, so right now my husbands top priority is the mortgage. I would gladly eat mac & cheese for the next year just to save for another Disney trip! :p

We are also hoping to start a family soon so with pregnancy and (hopefully) an infant right around the corner, Disney seems further away then ever! My husband thinks anyone who takes a child under the age of 4 to Disney is crazy. My job for the next few years is to change his mind on that one!
we just got back with our 6 month old and he had a great time!! he will never remember but we will he went on POC, HM, PPF, WTP, TTA, IASW and Spaceship earth also he had his first Dole Whip!! a little taste anyway and he actually watched the fireworks
