Went to check my air reservations and they were not what was printed on the itinerary Disney sent us. Suppose to have a 3 hour direct flight instead we were booked for connecting flights and a 5 1/2 hour flight time!! We are traveling 5 hours to get to the airport to get a direct flight because I hate to fly. Disney called airline and now we have to travel a day earlier, arrive around 6 pm, connecting flights, and it is costing us $140 more! Not a great start for what is suppose to be a great trip! When on a tight budget the extra money really hurts.

I would drill down more into what happened or changed. Sometimes. flights are cancelled by the airlines and you are auto moved to "best" option. You should be able to change w/o incurring a cost as this was not your fault. If Disney made a mistake and you can prove it, I'm sure they will take care of it. Of course if the error is your fault then there is nothing you can do. Also if you took out trip insurance, look into trip insurance to see what might be covered.

In these times, you have to find out yourself what went on. Companies will take the easiest way out of a situation and not look at why something happened.

Good Luck and keep us posted on what happened. Maybe we all can learn something from the event.

This is why I book my own flights. That way I can get the flights I want, when I want, on the airline I want.
You have the same options with WDW purchased flights. If you book online you have full options on flights. Now many times you can get the flight cheaper on your own then through WDW. I always compare the two and purchase the cheaper.

That is my point in my orginial post. You shouldn't have to pay the $140 to change your flight. Call the airlines and protest.

As for the extra hotel cost, see if your trip insurance covers this change. You can stay at a cheaper hotel for one night. See if the airline will put you in the hotel attached to the airport at their cost or reduced cost.

Actually I can't. The crazy thing is DCL can book from my city but WDW Travel Company can't. I would book my own airfare anyway. Even if I was doing a cruise I would book my own airfare.

As we all know, you need to confirm your flights before departure b/c the airlines have the right to change/cancel flights whenever they want. With that said, I have complained when this has happened to me. The airlines were able to accomodate my requests most of the time. Call the air carrier and see if they can switch you to a sister carrier for the time that you need. Also, I'd ask why you were charged $140 more for the flight change that you did not initiate.
Good luck.

I would get on the phone IMMEDIATELY and tell them this is unacceptable. If you are nice but firm, you should be able to get a manager with some kind of power. You should NEVER have to pay more for a flight - EVER. My father has traveled all over the world for 30 years and ANY TIME the airline made a mistake, he was on the phone. If the flight couldn't be changed, he would tell them he wanted a hotel for the evening and tell them they could figure out who was going to pay for it because they're the ones who made the mistake. Seriously - if you didn't book through a travel site (expedia.com or travelocity.com) -then it was booked through the airline, which means they have to heed your request. If DISNEY made the mistake, then they need to take care of it. If the airline and Disney blame eachother, demand a 3-way call between agents of both so you can figure out what went wrong.

I travel all the time for my job. Happens more times than I care to comment on.

Most of the airlines at my home airport have either done away with many of the direct flights or only offering one option a day.

We used to have several Southwest and Delta options for direct to Orlando. Delta no longer offers any and Southwest has cut back to only one a day.
