has Hollywood Studios lived up to its name change?

Back in 2008 Disneys MGM changed its name to Disneys Hollywood Studios. Regarding the new name Disney Parks president Meg Crofton said "the new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer—in music, television, movies and theater."

So my question is do you think since 08' has Hollywood Studios lived up to that name change? Does the present condition of the park reflect the new entertainment?

My own opinion is in the grey area. While we do have the great new Star Tours and Toy Story Mania there is also things like the American Idol Experience which I have never been a fan of. I feel some attractions also like The Great Movie Ride for example need updating to reflect current Hollywood.

Your thoughts?

As pointed out, the name change was due to the MGM license expiring and Disney not renewing it. The real mission the park is supposed to live up to is as follows~

'The World you have entered was created by The Walt Disney Company and is dedicated to Hollywood—not a place on a map, but a state of mind that exists wherever people dream and wonder and imagine, a place where illusion and reality are fused by technological magic. We welcome you to a Hollywood that never was—and always will be. - Michael Eisner, May 1 1989'

Does it still live up to this 25 years on? Yes it does. It could do with some improvements but it still works out.

It is not supposed to reflect the real Hollywood.

Just the very term studios implies that there is active filming or production going on...which there is not and in fact any filming that was being done was ceased so no I do not agree that it lives up to the namesake either literally or figuratively. It is a park with some movie based rides but "studios" it aint.

(queue Uni argument in 3...2...)

I think the name change works, but the park strategy has not panned out completely. The name itself lends itself to either a generic studios or a place of multiple studios. The description does cover another great theme.

Film: Great Movie Ride, Star Tours, Magic of Disney Animation, MuppetVision, Indiana Jones, Toy Story Midway Mania, LMA, Sci-Fi Dine-In
Television: American Idol Experience, Tower of Terror, Disney Junior, 50s Prime Time
Music: Rock n' Roller Coaster, American Idol Experience
Broadway/Musicals: Beauty & the Beast, Little Mermaid

If you go with Studios you have Muppet Studios, Golden Age of Hollywood, G-Force Records, Pixar Place, etc.

The park is need of a lot of help, but the name change wasn't a bad choice. They only other choice I can see is "Disney's Hollywood Adventure", but it is too close to Disney's California Adventure" and would lose the studios name completely to compete with another studios down the road.

The name, to me, is too close to Universal Studios. If Universal Studios can have "thrill" rides, and lots of them ( rides in general), then why can't Disney''s Hollywood Studios?

Whether or not its the intended purpose, I always feel HS is just an "offload" park. To a majority of guests, its not at all as popular as any one of the other three parks, meaning if i could only visit three parks, HS would not be one of them.

I feel they could completely consolidate all attractions sprinkled into the other parks. While this would probably make no sense for Disney to do, they just need to keep making the best out of what they have.

Maybe in the future if they started to add Marvel attractions into HS, it would gain some steam. Starwars doesn't cut it, for me anyways... but its a start!

They need to add a Star Wars land to the park. Me and all the other Star Wars dorks would instantly make that park a huge success.

The park is just a mess in so many ways. It's going to take a lot to "fix" it.

Yes, there are a couple of great attractions. But as a cohesive whole, it's just a disaster.

The parks theme is watered down but I wouldn't call it a disaster. It really wouldn't be that difficult to fix the theme of the park. Disney would make it difficult because that seems to be their style and everything tends to be difficult for them. Do I believe Disney has the dedication to do whats right for the park, not really but one can always hope.

I'd rather them just retheme the park. Redo the structure of the "lands" and add new rides to new areas.

It was my least favorite park even when it was MGM.

I would hope that it never lives up to that new definition. If anything, I would like the park to represent the golden age of movies even more. That's exactly why I love Hollywood/Sunset so much and why so many people hate the BAH which ruins the immersive feel of old Hollywood.

I also love the Eisner quote that @Andys2992 posted above, that is a great desscription.

Wow, stop growing older! :) Exact opposite here, gets better with age for us! < no kids either, but we all were once!
