I will be at Epcot on the 4th. But I was thinking of going back to my hotel for a few hours to rest and then coming back in time to make it to my dinner reservation at 6:30pm. Should I do this, or should I stay in the park? I'm afraid if I leave that I won't be able to get back in. Advice please!!!

There's two ways it could play out. If MK starts phase closing at 10am, then Epcot is at signifigant risk to phase close since it's the first re-route for guests for parking and for park access.

If MK doesn't get busier until 1pm, there's a good chance Epcot will be very busy, but not close.

Now, if MK only shuts down around the time of its fireworks (9pm) then Epcot should be ok, but busy.

The way it works out, a 9-10am phase close for MK usually means all of the subsequent phase closings i mentioned will occur after it has breif openings. Like, it's closed 9-10-11 and then reopens until like 1-2-3 when it clsoes again, has a parade, is open until 7-8-9 when it closes again.

So, if the closings happen way early at MK, it means it's an extremely busy day. Thus, Epcot will be getting MK overflow from early on.

The best advice i can give it to stay in Epcot, or to keep an eye on MK, MGM and AK - because when any of them shutdown the people are directed to Epcot.

Just for my own peace of mind, I'd plan on staying in the park. Even if the park stayed open, transportation to your resort and then back to the park again would be very crowded and probably slower than usual.

Have a great time!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're staying on property, they should let you in, even if they are "at capacity" - right? Or is this where those phases or categories come in? (I think I remember seeing a thread on that once).

Phase 1: Guests with MYW base tickets, one day tickets, guests with no admission, and CMs using a main gate are turned around at the Auto Plaza.

Phase 2: Only resort guests, AP/PAP, Park Hoppers, guests re-entering the same park admitted, ONLY if using a taxi or resort transportation. (Auto Plaza is closed)

Phase 3: Only resort guests and AP/PAP admitted. (Only resort transportation)

Phase 4: Closed to all guests. (No incoming transportation)

I hadn't seen the phase list in awhile. Nice to know that regular AP'ers are with Resort Guests as the last to be turned away. Not that you'd catch me dead anywhere near WDW when it's so busy they are required, though. But it is nice to know. :)

Thanks so much for the info about the closing phases. I had no idea that is how they did it. Even though I also have an AP, I think, to play it safe, I will stay in the park. :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy:

Out of curiosity, anybody know when the last full closure (nobody admitted)of each park was due to capacity?

I remember working at the Studios in 1997 over the 4th and MK closed completely, but I don't remember any other park reaching that level...

I can't imagine what a scene those parks would be. I get frustrated easily, and if the parks got THAT full, I would just go right back to my resort even though I *could* still be admitted.

Being Epcot, capacity probably will not be reached..crowds will be extreme, but you should be okay getting back into the park if it is between 3:00 and 5:00 (to be safe)

I normally don't go to the parks on holidays. I am not a big fan of crowds. But I heard about the special 4th of July fireworks shows for both Epcot and MK and the other special events happening and I just wanted to see it, at least once in my life.

One of my favorite images I will never get out of my mind is when I was driving toward EPCOT on NYE 2006-2007 and on the road signs instead of having an arrow pointing toward MK, it said "FULL". This was around 10am. Absolutely stunning...

Twas a very busy day. Epcot eventually shut down its parking lot and I was hanging out by the entrance, cuz they have those benches, and it was eerily quiet. Then guest relations CMs came out and stood guard at the monorail, not letting anyone on it. No going to MK.

Monorails didn't unload anyone either, and the parking lot had stopped, and i don't know if WDW buses were still coming, but for about an hour, no one was in the entry plaza except us and the CMs.

how did people get back to the MK resorts w/o the monorail?
