Has Disney FIGURED IT OUT! Grand Fiesta Redux!

So what do you think the chances are that Disney was betting all along on the reaction we (as in the core) fans would have to this rehab? Think for a moment, it didn’t cost much for the company to do the rehab. It didn't cost much to market it (as in, so far there isn't any marketing) yet look at the response it’s getting.

Slowly but surely word is getting out. Here on WDWmagic there are TONS of people talking. Is it good? Is it bad? Is it anything even worth talking about? Word is spreading to other messages boards and before you know it, everyone has to go "see" this for themselves, as a video of the ride doesn’t do it justice.

Granted, Disney could have spent a ton on this. They could have given us new AA's or new scenery. Maybe use some new 3D projection system. But, I'd bet that a part of them said, "Why spend it? People will still come, in fact they might come even more to see for themselves what this crazy thing is" I'd bet that by not opening on the first target day they were creating a carefully crafted PR job. Yes, they knew people like MERF would rile up the fans and in turn create interest in a silly update. Heck, we know Disney reads these boards and many have suspected people on hear of working for Disney. Could it be that people (like Merf.. not saying him directly) could be here for the sole reason of drumming up the drama over items, knowing it will cause others to book a vacation to see in person what a horrible mess something has become?

Dare I say that, even the whole concept of using the 3 caloaboris (Not a “Major” know character to your average guest) might have been a ploy to draw out the most discussion possible! You see, they could have given us an educational IE “OLD Epcot” update. They could have worked the local culture into the update. But that wouldn’t be much to talk about. Instead they choose a theme that only the “geeks” (and I use that in the nice sense) would get fired up over. People would be overheard in queue lines talking about it, on messages boards and slowly, with no marketing of Disney's own. The word will get out and since word of mouth works better than most ad campaign’s well they would get quite the “bang” for their buck”

Just a though on my part.

How many more threads are there gonna be about this? Maybe I should start a few as well and I haven't even been on it yet, lol.

I think I will like it.

I really don't think that the Disney fan sites talking about the Gran Fiesta ride is going to generate a free advertising buzz for Disney. While die hard Disney fans will be talking about it I don't think the casual fan/guest even knows about it. I have talked about Gran Fiesta everyday on this board for weeks now. However, outside of this board I haven't even mentioned it to one person.

I highly doubt there are many (more than 25?) people out there who would decide to travel to WDW just because Gran Fiesta opened. That's regardless of free internet talk advertising, or a multi-million dollar ad blitz.

"figuring it out" would imply a fantastic attraction - and if you ask me Fiesta Tour is barely just ok. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I certainly wouldn't call it a high quality ride. It's noticibly done on the cheap - which I suppose is fine because the original attraction was never a high tech wonder in its own right. The bottom line it's nothing I would go out of my way to ride again, nor really tell people about it being "the new ride" at WDW.

So no, I would say they have not "figured it out" in terms of how that comment was presented in this discussion.

I look at it just a little differently. They upgraded the ride and didn't destroy it. Think Figment and you can see how bad it could have been. So maybe they are learning that diong a little sprucing is far better than gutting and destroying. Had they done the same sort of upgrade to Imagination, we would still be enjoying a classic today as opposed to "Eisner's Folly".

I don't think this is the case at all. Very little advertising was done for the Pirates of the Caribbean rehab other than in park advertising. We all know that Pirates is on a whole different level than El Rio Del Tiempo ever was.

As for the screens, I have no idea what thread it was in, but it was mentioned a while ago that this is going to be the next switch in "technology". It's not really an advancement in technology, but if you see how the screens were used in the Finding Nemo attraction, they can be effective.

This ride already had screens in it, why not just use them? But to say that they intentionally made the ride crappy, and then didn't promote it is a ridiculous assertion. How many rehabs have been heavily promoted? The attention paid to this on the internet doesn't even approach the attention given to Expedition Everest. Expedition Everest will be the biggest point of comparison for the internet era. It was the signature original attraction build at the time when message boards had gained popularity (There wasn't as much focus on message boards during the construction of Tower of Terror). We followed the construction of Everest from ground clearing to opening day. There were 5 page threads to determine whether or not a certain segment of track was a switch track. None of the discussions on Gran Fiesta Tour have elicited the type of emotion that Expedition Everest did during the countless threads that have been madea bout it.

For the first time in years I love it! World Showcase is finally getting the attention its needed for about 15 years now. Oh, if it hasn't peen already posted.. its spelled Caballeros. Also this is bigger than Everest and MUCH bigger than Soarin, because this was just a rumor for years and now it finally happened. Not to mention again the fact that El Rio needed a update.

:ROFLOL: Are you serious?

Wait - nevermind I am sure that El Rio turing into Gran Fiesta will attract more people to WDW than Soarin and Everest

I think a lot of people assumed that this attraction was going to get some kind of earth-shattering update and facelift. I could've predicted it wasn't going to be THAT huge of a difference, one way or another - if nothing else, if only because the rehab was pretty short for anything major to occur.

If you haven't rode it and hate it - well I view that as hypocritcal. Don't rely on a video or review from someone who "loved" the original attraction.

This ride was never and will never be an E ticket. It's an entertaining side venture at best. From what I have seen, it seems to be improved. I'll be riding it in September for my official review. I believe nothing until I see it with my own eyes.

I guess more should adopt that philosophy.

Yeah I'm serious. Try me. I haven't been this excited about a rehab in quite a while. And I never was that enthusiastic about Everest because theres nothing big about that for me (just another thrill ride) and I hate Soarin as I have stated before. So yeah its bigger for me at least. I'm not saying its bigger in pulling people to the parks, just more news worthy. I mean after having JIYI, Stitch, The Land... Lights Motor Action... this is actually a well done rehab in my opinion.

I don't think this ride will "turn off" the average visitor. Not having ridden this ride yet, I can't tell you if it's good or bad (in my opinion)...but I will you that al these threads have convinced me to take a ride in July :)

OK - I see that it is pointless to continue this. In your opinion the changing of El Rio to Gran Fiesta is the biggest thing at WDW in years. In my opinion it is a footnote in the story at best. I like the ride and will definitely go on it every time we are there but it just isn't a big deal to me.

On a side note - what the heck is all this use of the word "hate" recently? Is there a full moon or something?

I'll tell ya what I hate, I hate all the hating that the haters have been hating on things........... :lookaroun

true, it cold have been worse. they could have used kuzco (hes mayan or aztec or something, right?) instead of 3 cabaleros.
