Has anyone walked from the Wilderness Lodge to The Hoop Dee Doo in the dark?

I went about halfway last time.. it was completely dark.. like scary blair witch project dark.. so we turned around and headed back to the lodge where we were staying.. anyway we were thinking about trying to make it this time taking the trail all the way through the darkness to the hoop dee doo...

Curious if anyone here done this in the dark? Seems easy to stay on the trail?

The ease of staying on the unlighted trail will depend on things like the amount of moonlight on that particular night. Even if the moon is out and you can see where the trail is, there's always the risk of somebody turning an ankle in the dark because they can't see bumps or divots in the trail. (I've done this myself while jogging early in the morning before the sun is up.) Why not pack a pocket flashlight for each person? We have a bunch of these inexpensive ones, which we use for camping, and they do a great job (while also being lightweight, not requiring replacement batteries and taking up practically no space): http://www.autobarn.net/9-bulb-led-flashlight.html?site=google_base&gclid=CKrWzLGa-bwCFdI7OgodTWMAHg

I tried taking my fiancé on that trail one night last year and she wouldn't step foot on it lol.

It's funny because you know where the trails starts and ends, you know you're at Disney World and not some random mountain or country side you know nothing about and you also know even if you do go off the trail and for some reason can't make your way back, just pick a direction and walk straight and you will either run back into the trail, a road, a campsite or the lake and you should be fine from there but yet, even knowing all that, it still looks pretty creepy at night lol.

Being in Disney does not guarantee the number of nocturnal critters from wandering around loose. On a warm night, Gators, snakes, raccoons, skunks, etc. share those paths at night when no one is usually on them. Just saying!

Not to mention human "predators". The Disney parks are really safe, I think, because there is no way to access without passing security, but I don't know about resort areas.

I know this is central Florida and they say you can't find a body of water without gators in it which I believe but idk of they would be up on that path. It's possible but idk. As far as raccoons, snakes (some could be vary bad i know) and skunks go, their not so bad, I deal with them at home.

I've only been on that trail during the day on a bike. I think it would be fine on a bike at night as long as you've got a light. I would not do it walking.

They do occasionally have to remove alligators from Fort Wilderness (I know there was one near the back end of the 300 loop recently)- so I would definitely be too much of a chicken to go at night.

I didn't think you could walk from WL to Fort Wilderness???

Yep, 3/4 of a mile. I walked the nature trail (non-paved) in late evening and it was getting hard to see. I wouldn't try the paved or unpaved routes at all in the dark. I was worried about running into a skunk or a snake. I also got spooked by a stupid deer who waited until I was right beside him before jumping and bounding through the brush. Not sure who was more startled more.

It's MUCH easier to catch the boat from WL to FW and also much safer.

^^**But less fun, lol.

I'd do it, just bring a flashlight and you'll be fine.
Yeah unless Jason Vorhees is living out in that swamp, you'll br fine. This sounds super cool. I would do this in a minute and now I'm thinking of WL for my next trip.

I'll do it one day lol.

They should make it haunted for Halloween with an adult theme lol. It'll never happen but fun to think about.
