Hi! I just got done reading the novel Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom. It is about these people who live in the Magic Kingdom and how they control the park. It is set in the future. Just wondering what people think about the novel. It isn't a bad read and it is very fast. Although there are some inaccuracies at times in the book.

I thought it was going to be great when I checked it out, but it ended up to be terrible. Really hard to understand, stupid ending, badly written characters. I definately wouldn't suggest it. Just my opinion.

I read it about a year ago and really enjoyed it. It's a pretty interesting read in light of what is happening in internet communities these days. Freindster and the like are completely based on the notion of reputation economies such as the one outlined in the book.

Plus it was nice to see someone write about Walt Disney World who has such an obvious affinity for the place. Doctorow really seems to get what makes WDW so magical for so many of us.

If only those running the comapny had as strong an understanding of what makes Disney special.

I do agree that it was a little confusing at times. Something could have been explained better like the ad hocs and the woofies. I kept thinking that the woofies were drugs. Did anyone else think that.

i read it and loved whuffie takes the place of money based on your social rating for example you have low whuffie and you call an elevator it doesn't come because you don't desreve it because you don't do enough good things for people

an ad-hoc is a group of people who run a section of the park there is a liberty square ad-hoc a fantasyland ad-hoc and so on

in conclusion... LONG LIVE THE BITCHUN SOCIETY:sohappy:

i thought it was ok. i was pulp, and for pulp it was pretty good. heck, it was free so how bad could it be?
it was fun to read about the park and stuff in the future, but the one thing that really, really bothers me is that in one part he refers to Cinderella castle as Sleeping Beauty castle...um NOT...if you're going to spend that much time writing something, at least be familiar with the central icon of the park!!! duh!!! kinda ruined the thing for me and keeps me from giving it a better review.
