Has anyone ever flown sick?

Emergen-C is your friend. Please take caution to not make everyone else on your plane(s) sick. I *HATE* flying with a bunch of coughing, wheezing, sniffling passengers. No wonder some people fly with hospital masks on :) Planes, like the call center I work at, are like giant petree dishes!

Edit: I hope you feel better!!

It's the damn recycled air... All it takes is one person. I almost always develop some mild head cold 24 hrs after stepping off a plane.

Everyone in my Family has at least, at one point, flown home sick in one way or another. It really does depended on how Ill you are, who you are, the length of the trip and the weather. (yes, weather determines pressure) The best advice, as a family, is to sleep through it. If you're not going alone, take some ZzzQuil, at a safe dosage, or just attempt to fall asleep before the plane takes off. Have fun at the Happiest place on earth!

I flew with pneumonia once. Kept going to doctors in Orlando and saying, "I'm getting worse!" But they kept not fixing me. I took a huge swig of that prescription cough syrup and slept through the entire flight. :)

(Left airport, went immediately to hospital and was properly treated immediately.)

The flit didn't make me feel worse, but I did sleep through it. When I got up, I didn't feel worse...but I felt really bad in the first place.

Good luck.

Eek that whats I'm afraid of. My last trip I paid a nice visit to Celebration Hospital for half a day. Not fun. Clock is ticking...6 more hours to decide. If I decide to go I should start a trip report. Solo with a cold.

I do recall not feeling very well on one Disney trip when I was 11 though we spent mostly at Universal. Flying in, I was experiencing cold-like symptoms. *shrug* That was only a bad sign of negative things to come. I would have diarrhea a few days later that kept everyone in my family in the hotel from visiting the Magic Kingdom until late afternoon. Not pleasant and one experience I would love to forget!

When I was in the Marines, I had to fly somewhere when I was sick. I couldn't really say no... lol.. Anyway, I had sinus problems, sore throat, headaches. I remember that the air pressure on the descent really messed up my hearing. Since everything in the human head is connected, my sinus infection probably had something to do with it. I tried holding my nostrils shut and then breathing out my nose to try to pop my ears back open. Big mistake. I ended up with an ear infection later that week. Just remember: DON'T FORCE YOUR EARS TO POP if you have sinus issues on a plane. Just let your ears naturally pop when you land back down on the ground.

Also, I got sick at WDW earlier this year. I pushed myself too hard running around, I didn't drink enough liquids, and I ended up totally broken the next day. I was pumped up and excited about being at Disney World, and I felt like I wasn't really sick. Just remember to drink liquids even when you're not thirsty. If your urine isn't clear, you're wrong. Drink liquids (not soda), take some vitamins, take your time getting from point A to point B, and take breaks throughout the day!

My daughter had developed swimmer's ear the last day of one trip when she was little (I think she was three) and had problems with the pressure going up and coming down. She wasn't cry/fussy but kept digging in her ears until they were raw. A wonderful steward on our flight told us that heat helps relieve the pressure pain so he brought two styrofoam cups that had a hot watered napkin in each. I held them over her ears on the descent and she was fine.

I am too late for you to use this for the plane. But maybe help on the other side?

Take a Sudafed 12 hour before your flight. It helps the ears. I have the same problems but after taking the Sudafed my ears are fine, no excruciating pain when descending and no waiting hours for my ears to pop

If you have issues such as high blood pressure, you cannot use. I am talking about the real Sudafed, with the pseudoephedrine. The kind you now have to sign away your life to get. But it does work wonders.

In lieu of dragging around a neti pot (or if you just don't really like them), get those cans or bottles of saline meant to shoot up your nose. They also help, especially when you cannot take a real decongestant.

I never drink any drinks on airplanes. I buy a bottle or two of water on the other side of security. The flight attendants always grab your drink cup by the top, from where you drink. It is just asking for cross-contamination. Better to just drink out of my own bottles.

Even when I'm not sick I get really painful pressure and my ears pop.

I use debrox ear drops for a week before my flight and then flush my ears the night before so I don't already have pressure in my ears going in from wax.

I use the squeeze bottle version of the netti pot and find it more effective.

I take a Sudafed 12 hours before and if I have allergies or a cold I take another nasal decongestant that makes me sleepy shortly before the flight. I'd rather be loopy and out of it for flights when I'm sick.

Your ears are going to implode permanently and your eyes are going to start to bleed. This will occur at 8,000 feet and your appearance and screaming will scare the other passengers. This will cause the flight to be diverted and you will be removed from the aircraft as a threat to national security according to TSA....

HAVE FUN!:)

Had this problem with our most recent trip in December. Was just starting to feel sick the day before we left for our 3 week stay at the Art of Animation. During our vacation I had a sinus/head cold and I sounded like that man from the men's big and tall store commercials ("Your gonna like the way you look, I guarantee it!") Anyway, for the whole 3 weeks there had yellow nasal discharge, fluid sounds in my chest when breathing (especially when trying to sleep). I bought some dm cough syrup at the resort store but didn't really help. I had some zyrtec d with me and was using that also. I didn't feel too bad most of the trip but on the flight home I took my zyrtec d prior to our 5 hour flight home and inserted my ear planes. Well just after take off my right ear had the worst pain and pressure I have ever felt, and I couldn't stand it any longer, so I pulled the ear planes plug from my right ear and their was a popping sound and swoosh noise. Well the pain went away immediately so I removed the left ear plane as well and all seemed good until we landed and we left the airplane and I noticed my hearing was messed up. Sounded like I was hearing and talking with an echo. I couldn't stand it! Needless to say it took about 2 weeks time for what I figured happended to my ear, a ruptured eardrum, to heal (along with some antibiotics from the doctor for the sinus infection). Thank goodness after 2 weeks my hearing was back to normal. Next time if I have a sinus/head cold and I'm supposed to fly, I'll probably just cancel and reschedule (or I could have stayed at WDW for another week or so) ;)

ta-heck with all the fancy medicine... Netti pots, seeing you can't breathe and good ol chicken noodle soup and 2000 mg of Vitamin C... I start the soup/vit c regimine 4 days before every disney trip.. works wonders...
