Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be open by

Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be open by May 28

We're finally getting a little closer to finding out when Universal's Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open. Universal is now offering vacation packages beginning May 28 to promote their new attraction. The packages will include breakfast at the Three Broomsticks restaurant, a souvenir ticket to the new attraction and an Express Access.

Universal is quick to point out that May 28 is not the official grand-opening date for the Wizarding World. They want people to be able to plan their trips and said that they know everything will be done by then. Until now, there have been no dates mentioned, just the "Opening in Spring 2010" announcement.

It doesn't really matter. HP fans will go. If Universal nails it, IoA becomes "the HP park (that also has Marvel and Dr. Seuss sections)". If Universal drops the ball, at least guests can salvage their day with Spidey and Hulk.

Realistically, how would one even fill a HP park? I mean an actual MK-inspired theme park, not a Discovery Cove boutique park. More than one dark ride, set in Hogwarts, would be overkill. Besides Hogwarts and Hogsmeade, what other "lands" were fleshed out enough to use as theme park settings? I'd eventually like to see another ride or a stunt/effects show, but even three rides with a boatload of shops and interactive areas seems about right for a half-day experience.

Exactly right 71 Jason.

Basing one property to an entire park is insane anyway. It is not just that content would eventually become stretched it is the fact that even if you have enough imagination and content you are just limiting your audience. Potter is huge but there are still a lot of people who could care less or don't know enough about it to make them venture to a theme park with that entire theme. It is the same reason any theme park always has variety.

Forbidden Journey has a 50/50 chance of being open during this soft opening, but all the rest of Wizarding World will be!

If this turns out to be true I will pretty much burst from excitement...guess we'll be finding out pretty soon though!
